Semi-synthetic or full-synthetic is good. Use a name-brand oil and try to use a Motorcraft or other high quality filter.
I use Mobile 1 0w-30.

Have used Amsoil 5w20, Royal Purple 5w20, Mobil 1 5w20 and now I am using Mobil 1 5w30 High Mileage formula. Always used a Motorcraft or Puralator Gold oil filter, they are both made by the same company and contain the proper anti-drain back valve.

Here at my shop we use NAPA oils, they are made by Valvoline. I run the Full synthetic 5w-20 NAPA oil.

I think it would be a high temperature for a period of time and it would be different for dino juice, semi-synthetic of full-synthetic.

5-30 is what was specified by the engineers who designed our engines and provides better protection. 5-20 is what the bean counters forced to be put in and be "recommended" on the cap and in the manual to help with CAFE standards.

Motorcraft 5W-20 Synthetic Blend and Motorcraft FL-820S filter. I put on about 8000 miles per year and run several Autocross exents, so I change oil several times during the summer because of the abuse of the Autocross.

i use motorcraft 5w-20, semi-sythetic, and a fram filter. as for the best oil....i seen in a magazine some time ago with different oil manufactures on "the best oil". some of the top oil brands were amsoil, royal purple, redline, and lucas. the BEST was MOTUL 300V, i used this in my 00civic si w/ turbo, it was expensive....somewhere around $85 for 5 quarts, and it smelled like coconut/bubblegum depending on who smelled it. the WORST Synthetic was suprisingly MOBIL 1. mobil 1 wouldn't even tell the company testing it on the grade/type of synthetic it used in its formulas, i assume they were embarrassed on telling the public what was really in their oil. in conclusion, unless you have some monster motor putting out tire shredding hp, just get a respectable brand and youll be fine. i have 136,000 miles, and the car has always had the motorcraft oil in its changes.....no pinging, no knocking, no smoking, no bull ****.

You may want to reconsider using Fram (non) filters and use the best Motorcraft and save a few dollars too.

Oil has nothing to do with pinging.
I'd rather park my Marauder than use a Fram filter on it.

At walmart, the Motorcraft oil filters cost more than fram by about a dollar, never had an issue with it. what's your reasoning? and I was just trying to say that I have had no problems with my motor using that setup.

So you would not spend the extra dollar for a better filter?
Read these carefully.

Agreed...
After having start up knock in '03 Grand Marquis with only 26Kmi, I won't use a Purolator Classic either, tossed the one I had on hand into the trash...
If your Marauder is stock the 5W-20 is fine, but if it's supercharged I'd use no less than a thick 30W(Castrol 0W-30 good choice, 12.2 cSt), or a 0/5W-40...
In spite of the naysayers, Mobil 1 is one of the best oils out there especially in the euro(0W-40) or extended performance versions...
BTW if you are wondering about a thick 30W, oil grades fall into a general range of thickness there can be thin, medium or thick grades of each oil weight... Would make more sense to have oils graded as 25W(thin 30), 30W(medium 30) and 35W(thick 30) but that isn't how it's done...
If you'd like to learn some basics about oil check this out...

Then you have a strange Walmart as the Motorcraft is cheaper at mine. Regardless of the cost just look at the pictures I posted of the Fram and Motorcraft I posted. Note the Motorcraft has about twice the filtration area so it does not plug up as easily. The only thing preventing the oil from by-passing the filter media is that paper gasket on the ends that is only kept sealed by a very weak spring. That means a lot of the oil does not actually go through the media. What you can't see in those pictures but you can if you look closely at the media is that the "holes" in the Fram are very erratically sized and spaced with some of them large enough to see clearly with the naked eye.

What ever is cheapest!:P
I have on now a K&N filter and Pennzoil syntec because it was $ 27.oo for six quarts with filter after rebate.
I change oil on five vehicles, I can't see spending 50-100 on an oil change.
If I did that , that is a repair bill, not maintenence

Motorcraft 5W-20 Synthetic Blend and Motorcraft FL-820S filter.
+1 since 7811 miles. I've changed it every 2500-3000 miles with the exception of doing 4k w/5-30 synthetic once.
I have almost 115k now.

enough said about fram, i never knew that they were a low quality filter. i'll spend a dollar more if it keeps my peace of mind, thanks all. this is a good topic, because many people, like myself don't know any better. its better to provide proof with your statements, than to make this thread based on opinions, such as "lucas is the best, because its all i use"

It's better to show the proof, which is why I cut those up for display pieces years ago since a picture is worth a thousand words.
