Too Funny!!! Enjoy
This train trestle have stood its ground for the last 100 years.
This fact doesn't deter some drivers from challanging the bridge about once a month. all of them fail. All footage courtesy of 11foot8.com - copyright Jürgen Henn editted by tubezzz for prochan and liveleak.

I am surprised that the state/county transportation department has not done more to prevent the accidents. Obvously, the sign and flashing lights are NOT working very well. Maybe painting the I-Beam yellow and black to highlight the low bridge. Maybe stringing those dangling chains from an overhead sign or something crossing the road. Sure seems like there is not enough warning about the problem since some of those trucks are moving pretty good.
Sure the drivers are dufuses. But the state/county highway department is to blame too. The frequency of accidents in that video leads me to believe that section of road should be closed to truck traffic completely.
BTW -- it ain't a trestle.

I might have to find that bridge and grab my lawn chair. Might be an entertaining alternative to watching the morons at the boat ramp.

Wonder if it's still 11' 8" or has the road been paved and the sign not upgraded to the new height.

I bet you it is! Pretty sure the people driving those trucks aren't paying attention to the sign. Either that or they don't know the height clearance of the vehicle they are operating!

I wonder what the guy in the first 5th wheel trailer thought when he got to the campground. I don't think he even knew that the A/C unit and roof vent was sheared off!
That bridge has put a bunch of commercial drivers in the unemployment line...:D

They are oblivious. Too many distractions. People drive by instinct now, most people don't have any idea of what is happening around them when they are driving. That's why they don't see the signs, flashing lights, etc. and still hit the bridge.

Well I know that all Penske trucks are marked very well each time the driver looks in the sideview mirror they see it on the box. As for the 35' motorcoach the driver knows the height. It's marked on the dash of every coach I have ever driven or seen.
No reason the clip a bridge like that.

That was really funny. I always look at the height of bridges when I'm driving my work truck and if they're close to what my truck is I take it nice and slow. Screw the people blowing their horns

When our safety director asked a driver why he drove his 13'6" rig under a 13'0" bridge the driver answered "the delivery was on the other side & I didn't want to be late".
And that's a true story! :shake:

A driver was trying to explane to a police office as to how he got his TT jamed under the bridge.
Office: What happened?
Driver: I was delivering the bridge and got lost:lol:

God those are so entertaining.
Just more proof of how people are so stupid.
I know the height of my trucks and when I have just the slightest doubt. I go around and find a new way.

Any one ever have to stop and let some air out of the tires to get under a bridge?
Ah! The good old days:lol:

Isn't this in Chicago? at least I have been told there is a railroad bridge like this(even looks like this from the pic I saw, but can't be sure due to the video's quality) that the sign is inaccurate. That the sign is off 2-4" due to the city just paving over the old asphalt and not changing the sign.
BUT most instances like this is driver error.

I did this when I was a Lieutenant in the US Army back in about 1973. We had a convoy of construction equipment that was routed on to Route 1 south in Virginia and there was a very narrow and short railroad underpass about 1/2 mile from entry onto I-95 southbound. There were four 10-ton trucks with 25 ton lowbed trailers. Two of the trailers had Cat D7E bulldozers loaded. The other two had 2.5 CY Scoop Loaders. Clearance was within about 1-2 inches on the first dozer with a cab on it. No where to turn around. The solution was to drop air pressure in all 8 tires on the lowbed trailer and sneak through "just barely". Fortunately, the other three made it with no problem. Technically we were shorter than the specified bridge height. However, like Mr. Man said, I think a paving job increased the height of the road, decreased the headroom available and the sign was not adjusted for the difference.
We were able to air up the tires on the other side of the bridge with the 250 CFM air compressor that was near the end of the convoy. Had the clearance been any less, the only solution would have been to offload the dozer into the middle of US 1 and crawl it to the other side since removing the cab was not an option.

That's that stupid yellow sign rule, In NY we have yellow sign's all along the BQE that say 12'8", in reality the bridge is 13'8" I know this from personal experience, most box trailers are 13'6" and there is that extra 2" for bounce. I personally took a 13'7" load of scaffolding all the way from Staten Island to Astoria on the BQE and never sc***** a single bridge the entire route. If the sign is yellow you have about a foot difference from what the sign says. I do not know why or how that is to be, but that's what I was told from my driving instructor back when I was getting a CDL and it's a fact. If the sign is white then that's the actual height of the bridge. It looks like there is a steel beam used to protect the bridge that spans across that is lower then the actual bridge which is what they are hitting. Maybe that is where the problem is.

I used to own and operate a 16 foot box truck.
Came within 1 foot of repeating all these guy's mistakes at a bridge near Atlanta...

That steel I-Beam IS the bridge. That is the load bearing member that carries the load or part of the load. I suspect that there are 4 of those beams spaced about 4-6 feet apart holding up the trackway above.
