Louisiana is 41, but we do something right and got the highest for murders. Go LA.

North Dakota and Utah are the only two states that received a AAA rating for their bonds.

I'm not spending my sunset years in North Dakota or Utah.

Unfortunately, due to hurricane Sandy and the destruction of the Jersey shore, and being one of the highest populated states (resulting in more infrastructure, law enforcement, and politicians with hands out), if the unemployment picture doesn't get better, I think Jersey is going to take a dive in the future.

But, my roots are here, so I'm staying.

How can it be LA is ranked 41st when the State per capita spending is 11th Highest?

I usually post facts regarding this topic, but know I will use Liberal Speak;

Could it be Gov't taking money from those who earn it, keeping a cut for themselves and "giving" it to those who don't earn it doesn't lift all boats? Could it be Gov't is putting holes in the boat? Or is it that those who earn it are not bailing fast enough?

Its probably pretty easy to manage a state with plenty of oil and a population less than Ft. Worth, Texas.

State Per Capita Spending State Ranking
Alaska 1 6
WY 2 2
Vermont 3 8
Delaware 4 11
NY 5 39
Hawaii 6 37
NM 7 44
Mass 8 19
RI 9 49
Louisiana 10 41

Total Gov't spending of 42% of GDP is clearly not enough. It should be 100%! No matter at current growth rates just Fed spending will equal 100% of GDP in 20 years.

North Dakota and Utah are the only two states that received a AAA rating for their bonds.

Missouri, North Carolina, Utah and Virginia are the only four states to keep their "AAA" bond rating for the last 46 years or more.

I lived in Wyoming for a while in the '80's and while the population there is not the wealthiest they do believe in working hard and not relying on others. This most likely translates to those who govern.

Surprised AZ came in lower than MN. From where I stand, the place is 10x better... the legacies of the Napolitao governorship (lightrail and speeding cameras) are the most annoying out there... There is also the illegals problem which are blowing up budgets everywhere, but can't really blame that one on the state... If it wasn't for Joe Arpaio, the problem would be 10x worse...

I've lived in Arizona, at least in my opinion, one of the worst run states I've seen. Their main cities are laid out terribly, their schools are run poorly, except for the universities, because they are cash cows. Drivers licenses don't expire until your 65, traffic rules in Tucson are opposite other cities, there is hardly any public transportation except the bus.
In Tucson there is no east west highway, they use the center lane on 3 main e-w as suicide lanes. Phoenix is little more normal, but each city in Arizona makes their own rules, as do the counties. Cross a street and you are dealing with a different set of laws.
