View Full Version : Supporting Membership --- Get some Flags

Thought it was about time to bring up this subject again.

Some of the newer members (and even some not so new members) here may be wondering about those "Checkered Flags" flying under some MM.Net member screenname/avatars. Like ^^^^^. Those flags denote a supporting/contributing member.

New members accumulate "stars" with their avatar based on the number of posts. Those stars convert to flags when you become a contributing supporter for the site.

MM.Net relies on your contributions, voluntary donations and those of the vendor sponsors to keep the lights on in this place. Without your help .... the unthinkable could happen. I support MM.Net because I believe in the site ... in what it has become over the years ... and for the info sharing and comaraderie that makes this place tick.

Your donation gives you access to the "Members Only Forum", some extra space in the photo gallery, the ability to do multiple PMs, and some other stuff. But most of all .... it guarantees that the site is up and running when you need it.

Moreover, these contributions/donations help to defray some of the costs and expenses for Marauder gatherings on the national or regional level held throughout the year (e.g. Maraudervilles, SSHS10, Carlisle "All Ford Nationals", Louisville, SSM picnic, etc.) If you have had the opportunity to attend any of these events over the years, you know that the benefit is returned to the membership many times over. At Marauderville 7, MM.Net covered the cost of Indy photos and certificates and entry to the Indy Hall of Fame. MM.Net offset some of the costs for MV8 and has done the same for MV9, MV10, and MV11. MM.Net sponsored the trophies awarded at Maraudervilles and at Carlisle All Ford Nationals. MM.Net has sponsored and paid for the Marauder tent/tables at Carlisle and supplied drinks, botted water and snacks for 3 days. At Louisville, MM.Net covers the cost of entry into some of the venues and sponsors the weekend breakfast gathering. If you have attended any of these events, you know what you get with membership. If you haven't attended one of these events ..... get yourself motivated and get the full MM.Net experience by meeting the faces behind the screennames and a real great bunch of folks to hang out with.

Of course, donations are not mandatory. You can play anytime you wish. But if you want to get those contributing member flags -- a contribution would help. Let's keep the lights on in here.

Thanks to MM.Net, our supporting Vendors and to our Contributing Membership for making this one of the best sites on the Net.

Think about it and do what you can, if you can. Get yourself some flags.

There's a link on the Home Page to make it happen >>>>> http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/payments.php

Thanks for listening.

Maybe a slight tweak to the current system like requiring people to be members in good standing in order to join in and participate in MM.net sponsered/subsidized events would make sense. It would to me. :dunno:

I understand your point. However, I wouldn't do anything that would discourage any participation in the events. In my view, it is generally the initial participation in one of the events that encourages registered members to take the next step toward becoming a supporting member. You gotta get them interested first. But, not everyone has the ability to contribute.

I could definitely see adding some additional perks (even small ones) for the folks who are flying flags. Membership cards, certificates or window sticker for the MM?? Maybe different color badges at MM.Net events or some notation or icon on the badge of being a supporting member to acknowledge who the MM.Net supporters are. Maybe a couple extra perks at Marauderville or Carlisle --- such as extra stuff in the goodie bag, extra breakfast or lunch ticket, or a special MM.Net hat, armband, etc. We even had a "Supporting Members Only" raffle several years ago. Those are just a couple ideas to consider.

I've had my Flags for many years. The Mercury Marauder.net owners have donated back too many events, with out their help we may not of had the funds to pull off or keep the cost way down. I would just like to say* Thank You * to owners for the many years they have given back to all of us.

Agreed
MM.net does plenty
All the extra goodies come from some of our more industrious members and should stay that way.

Happy to be a supporting member as is!

Perhaps it is time for the elite to start their own "paid up" members only site?

Those of us with limited {average} incomes with a couple teenagers who want a to post-secondary education, who struggle to paid the bills monthly, who really should not drive a MM as a corolla fits the budget better, don't belong here?

There are other sites with tens of thousands of members who will offer automotive advice, without looking for flags?

I wouldn't at all be offended with being dropped as a member here, go for it.

Let me chime in here for a moment.

My income isn't shat, while being divorced raising a 13 year old and paying all the bills to provide the best life I can for my little girl.

As a Co-owner of this site, myself and my partners do not receive a paycheck in keeping this site alive.

Not once, have you heard from myself, Mary, Bob or Dan tell anyone they must donate to remain here.

So with that said, you can leave, you can stay. Your choice.

If you leave, and because of your attitude, I hope the door hits you in the ass

no the issue isn't about elitist owners who can dictate what goes on here. merely the flags designate folks, after having attended a meet-up or having their problem solved here on the forum or another reason, decided to give back to the community.

I sincerely hope that stars or flags are not used for leverage on this site because there is support from folks who only lurk or only have 1 or 2 posts

I am sorry if I pushed you to Write that post up about the flags and what not . We all blow a little steam here and there so let's not get to crazy with you leaving the site and you'r membership here on mm.net. Were a family here and everyone's help is a amazing here on the site . I am sure you helped out members in the past . I helped a member that needed a head light so i shiped him a brand new one in the box for free. Also I am sure you have got help from other members on this amazing site .

I just really wanted to show my love to the site that has gave so much love and respect to me in a short time here on the site .

I see the 25.00 dollors I gave as a small helping hand to keep this site up and running for years to come .

People spend more than that on coffee at DD in the morning before work.

Sorry again if I set you off

So not one post in this thread warrants a response like this. Trying to increase donations for a site we love to keep it going is a good thing.

Have you ever been to a large meet? (I'll bet the answer is no) you would see how much money the site puts up to make it happen. Do you think all the things that go in to running a site are free?

That having been said, no one has ever been excluded whether they contribute or not.

Maybe you just bored because there are no more political threads for you to stir the pot, so your doing so here

Of you can't afford a Marauder, go ahead buy a Corolla, still welcome here.

Can't afford a donation? (Though I'd question why you can then afford internet) don't donate still welcome

No one has ever displayed an elitist attitude on this site whether you have stars or flags

I think you're a rabble rouser and are just looking to stir the pot. Shame on us, we took the bait and gave you exactly what you wanted

Congratulations on making it to 8 years old

My donation was not for the sole purpose of having flags or given with the intent to join an 'elitist' group....I only feel guilty for not doing it sooner.

It's the least I can do to help keep the lights on in a community that has given to me more than I ever expected, and not just MM-related stuff.

Whether you want to donate or not, that's your choice, Kernie; you are a member of this website in either case.

Yes, there are threads out there that harp on contributions, but you must realize that any organization has to pass the hat once in a while.

Maybe there is something else at play gentlemen. Kernie has become much more involved and quite frankly easier to deal with in the last year. I think most of his pot stirring days are a thing of the past, as I remember him that way.

Maybe just let the dust settle here and let it go. I can tell some of you have had some run ins with him as well as I, but I still feel he has made a good attempt at change.

If its financial, believe me, I have been there! It can make you spew hate too easily. Maybe I am wrong? Hope you decide to stick around.

Many thanks for all this info about stars and flags and such...I really did not know about that business before now...
What I have known and experienced for the couple of years I have been on this site is that I have received invaluable information whenever I asked questions about my MM ownership/repairs/add on parts/et al and have been very grateful for it all.
I have also been able to share some information with others at times and hope that info has been helpful to those folks.
I will continue to participate here...and will in future, donate what I can to help support and maintain this valuable resourse for those of us who love these cars.
Thanks again to everybody who has written to help me with my 'projects' on my '04 DTR. I appreciate your help every time I log on.

That is really awesome! I better start paying attention to see when/where the next meet is. I'd love to meet a bunch of Marauder owners and see their MMs.

If you ever chose to fly in there are certainly members willing to pick you up at the airport and share pilot and copilot duties. That's just the way this group is

I have two four door cars ready and available to any that wants a ride from the Louisville airport...

I bought my car before I knew about our site. I bought the car off EBay and after I purchased it the seller informed me of the Noise at startup. Long story short I bought it anyway and then found Marauder.net. Just a little thanks from an old wood butcher for this site and the knowledge you guys share. Flags Up,,,,Buck
