Love it!

When I was in Daytona, it was $100 even for two Mustangs and that was with vanity plates for each. Here in STL...$84-86 for one Marauder with an ordinary plate. AND they charge a personal property tax at tag renewal that'll set me back about $400. I didn't even buy the car here....!

OUCH - That is outragous. Dang I thought NY was high. On the bright side I believe your insurance is reasonable. :(

I grew up in Cali, I have felt your pain. (Bet you don't know where Catheys Valley is)

WA state $30, Vanity tags, $60!

Once again Iowa is weird on these things. The cost goes down the older the car you have, because it is less to insure. A new MM cost me $350 or so, (including the $25 per year personalization) while my wife's Nissan being two years old is only like $85.

Since the personalization only costs $25 per year no matter what, I think I might change the plates every year. :)

The extra fees are for covering uninsured drivers or something like that. Seems to me the older car you drive, the higher your insurance should be. Those of us that drive newer cars and take care of them should be catching the break.

Uh....nope. State Farm...around $1,400/year for both cars mentioned above.

As the song goes:
"We gotta get outta this place...
If it's the last thing we ever do...
We gotta get outta this place...
There's got to be a better place,
for me and you..."

WOW--Note to self--DO NOT COMPLAIN again about tag/insurance cost--
Here in NC..Veh.tags cost $20 and special tags extra 20 on top of that....

My Insurance for all three in my sig..about $1400....for a year.....repeat--will not complain again.......Tom

I have had vanity plates since I started driving. In Wisconsin, $45 for a regular plate and about $60 for vanity, every year. 60+60+45= $165/yr. and I thought that was bad, I will not complain anymore.

Uh....nope. State Farm...around $1,400/year for both cars mentioned above.I was dreading my renewal, which coincidently came in the mail today.

Alabama, like Georgia, taxes cars as property. They assess a value, then pop you for it. Usually the state AND the municipality both have a taste. I am lucky, because the boundary line for the city of Birmingham runs down the middle of my street. My side of the street is in the county, so I miss paying Birmingham a cut by >< this much. (An interesting aside -- 911 calls on my side of the street are sent to the Sheriff's department, across the street they go to the Birmingham PD.)

In Alabama, there is no temporary tags (they called them "red tags" in Texas.) The plates on your trade are switched over to your new car. (unless you had no trade, then you don't have plates). You drop into the county courthouse or satellite office, pay $5, and voila! you're registered and have good plates. But your first renewal! WHACK! You have to pay property tax in arrears for the period between buying the car and renewal, PLUS property tax for the current year. I've seen people in line at the courthouse renewing their mercedes or beemer tags with renewals that were staggering.

My renewal isn't too bad. $344.14. $150.30 for the deferred 2003 tax, $169.34 for the 2004 tax, and $24.50 for the tag and issue fee. Next year I'll only have to pay about $180.

Steep, yeah. But at least they got the model right "Marauder" on the renewal bill.

(The 2003 valuation for my car was $30,000. The 2004 valuation is $22,600)
