I will be at our new home for a couple months and want something decent to listen to. $499 seems a little high for a table radio, but I can connect my XM home dock to it. It will be my bedroom unit once we actually move and my system is there. My current bedroom sound system is 15 years old and sounds it...

If anyone has one of these, is it worth the price of admisson?

Other options are out there.

I've got two. One is just a radio, the other radio/cd player. 13 years old and still pumping it out. My suggestion is find one to listen to. Buy used is an option too.

Yea I was thinking that too, but they let you make 12 payments so I don't have to shell out the $509 (shipped) all at once. Plus the size and Bose technology are a consideration.

I have had a Bose Wave radio/CD player for years. It sounds great and feels like a much larger system. We paid about $399 for it so prices haven't gone up TOO much. I've had mine for about 10 years and use it in the kitchen. If you are looking for something small to serve only 1 room .... I don't think you could do better unless you got a larger system with zone speakers for different rooms. For a system like that you are probably upwards of $2,500.00 plus. Personally, I don't need Dolby 7.1 technology since I am stuck with Dolby 5.1 ears. ;)

I also have a Bose Lifestyle 25 or 35 entertainment system in the living room for the past 6-7 years and the surround sound on that one is great. Software tunes it to your specific room and seating arrangements. They are now selling the 2nd and 3rd generation of that system; but mine fits my needs well as it is.

There is a Bose outlet off the NYS T-way, but I believe its all reconditioned stuff at like $50 off.

I've heard Bose equipment before and its pretty impressive for its size. Not too sure my new neighbors will appreciate my Klipsch Loudspeakers powered by Harmon Kardon when we actually move in. :D

Thanks, as I stated above I will plug my XM radio in to the Waveradio. I'm the only one who uses it at home, so they'll never miss it. I love the choices and sound.

One problem with the Bose Wave Radio/CD ..... my son's cat knows how to turn it on. So far, he can't change channels or insert CDs. Not sure what type music he prefers.

Never had this problem with the dog. ;)

I like my Klipsch speakers too, but for a bedroom or kitchen, the Bose stuff is pretty decent. I am probably not the one to judge if the price is too high, my sub alone cost waaaay more than the price of that radio.

Overall, I think they sound pretty good, I say buy it and break up the payments....

You need a sub with your Klipsch speakers? If I'm trying to sleep and the wife and daughter are watching movies all I hear/feel is thump, thump, thump. Thats through a sound deadened room as I worked grave yard for 32 years.

I'm leaning towards it. With the 12 payments, I won't even notice it. I'm not bringing my hoge podged bedroom system when we move. Well, I'll keep the Denon DVD player.

Here is a cost effective and better sounding solution.

I have used my Logitech THX (computer speakers) along with Rocketfish Bluetooth music receiver in our bedroom. The THX system simply plugs into what ever device using the small jack. In my case. I have it plugged into the Bluetooth receiver and I can play my iPod, iPhone, Pandora and what ever else I want to listen to.

The Rocketfish Bluetooth music receiver cost $50.
The Logitech THX system cost $100 and up. Depending on how many speakers and sound quality.

I spent about $250 for everything and it will sound a lot better than a tiny stand alone Bose or any other brand system.

And it takes up almost no space.

Here's my set up. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/12/06/9y7u3a2u.jpg

My sub

It's very loud if I want. Sounds awesome. Can control the base and volume with the THX controller. I control the volume with my iPod/iPhone.

Just another option for ya.

I've got 1 for 15 years now, still going strong. Dual alarm clock with CD player. It's pretty cool. Sound is what you'd expect from Bose although, oddly, I tend to appreciate the sound strength and quality better from about 1 room away. There's definitely a science to the thing.

If I were to get another, I'd scour eBay... but I did notice the little buggers hold a pretty strong resale value.

Well..... all I have is 4 RF 82's in that room, if I have some RF 7's, it would probably be a different story. But yes, I have one of Klipsch's monster subs with the built in amp, it rattles the hell out of the whole house, I have one on the system in the garage as well, and it overpowers it too, in reality, it would probably be better suited for use in the middle of a field, it is overkill.

I think Bose give you 60 or 90 days to return the item if you don't like it, I can honestly say, I am surprised how good that little plastic box sounds.

Wow, 4 RF82s don't throw enough bass for you? I bought the RF82II to replace my 20 something year old KG4s. They take up less floor space. At 1st I thought I made a mistake, then when they were "conditioned" they sound as good as my KG4s. The guy I sold the KG4s to has never used them. I may buy them back as I now have a much larger room to use them in. Maybe I will need a sub?

I worked audio retail through the 70's until multimedia took over and pure audio went esoteric....Through the years I've always had Bose, most times coupled in a 4 speaker setup with other speakers, Klipsch, Fried, Allison, B&W, Rogers, etc. but always kept the Bose.
As my life style changed and now live in an apartment where the size constraints no longer allow for super systems. I use this in the living area:

Ahh, another audiofile. I was really into it until it merged with video, they then lost me. I just recently threw out my old Stereo Review magazine collection. I bought my 1st Klipsch speakers based solely on their review. They were not wrong. As I've gotten older and deafer, audio has taken a backseat to my other interests. Still, I want good sound. Will the Wave Radio filla 14x16 room?

I had some Freid speakers till I fried them. Company used to be in Philly but I can't find them anymore. I think they must have gone out of business. I loved mine till they went poof. Powered them with Hafler amps.

Now you can actually get good sound out of ceiling speakers with digital.

All this talk is making me nostalgic for my LP's.

I still have my vynil and a turntable, somewhere. Guess I'll find it when we pack up to move. :D There was a high end sound equipment company in Binghamton, NY that moved overseas. The name eludes me now, but you would definately know it.

I still see them now and again, LOL about the Haflers, That's the same set-up I used for them, Although I used two, in mono mode, one for each speaker.

Yep, according to their web site they are being made again in Binghamton, NY.

A bar that was quite unique, that I use to frequent, had all McIntosh equipment feeding Klipsch Heresy speakers (6) plus two subs. That place rocked and the sound was incredible. No one has ever seen anything quite like the Coon Rod. It was more like going to someones club house. Then Butch (owner) hit the lotto, not once, but twice. Never know when he is open, when he feels like it. Only place in the area with dark beer on tap and Coon Dogs (hotdogs cooked in beer). He even made his own "spicy" mustard for them. Tellin ya, the place was amazing. Very LEO friendly too. If the "Pork" sign was lit, it was cop night. :coolman: Spent a lot of time there 20+ years ago.

The infamous Coon Rod. In my twenties, usually the thought would hit our drunken heads at the Loose Goose, now the Hour Glass to hop in our car and make the trek out to see Butch at the Coon Rod. You'd get your beers in a ball jar while getting poked from secrete holes in the wall under the bar. The coon dogs were freaking hot and you'd eat them in barber chairs. I'd almost always trip on the little step that went into the next room from the bar and alway's end up with a guitar jamming some old Dead tunes or what ever song came about. Most everybody had something to special to say and it was said all over the bath walls. The Coon Rod. Everyone who lives in Central New York likely had tipped a few at this unique slice of life in Central New York. Rumor has is Butch won the lottery some time ago and I don't think its been opened since. The last time I saw Butch was at the Big Moose Inn in the dimly lit bar. I was standing there counting change behind the bar and after hearing the door open, I turned around and there he was. Butch from the Coon Rod. Very strange.

Sounds like a great place!!!!!

Thats it. He stayed open and did not change after hitting the lotto the 1st time. When he hit it the second time he started spending much of his time in Florida. I try to make a yearly trek down the road to see him, but as I said we never know when its going to be open. Best chance is in the summer. Ole Butch is quite the piece of work. My wife, then girlfriend, grabbed the stick and got it away from him...
Were you aware that a post marking the geographical center of NYS is in the rear of the building in the field?
I would take it you were a Colgate student as he would not allow Morrisville students in. Then a couple of knot heads PO'd him and NO students were allowed after that. If he didn't know you, you didn't get in. You would be surprised at whom I have knocked a few back with there. ;)

Looking forward to having it by next Friday or the following Monday. I'll try it out here before I move it to our Myrtle Beach home. I know BOSE has awesome customer support. I bought a set of BOSE 901 Series IIIs back in 1978. In the early nineties one of them acquired a buzz in it, so I call BOSE customer service to see if they still had parts for this series. The person told me to take the back cover off of the speaker and describe to him what I saw. Basically the foam insulation around one of the speakers has disintegrated. He said here's the deal,.... we'll charge you $250.00 dollars for a new set of series VIIs and when you get them delivered put the IIIs back in the boxes and send them back to us with the enclosed shipping label.

Bottom-line, the VIIs are still going strong...

I had an original set of 901s with my then new Kenwood Quadrophonic system a couple of minutes ago...Lasted until about 1985 when I finally blew the foam out of the speakers.
I replaced them with a new set of 401s in 1985- still got em rockin the shop.
I had a 1401 car system that I swear was still one of the best car audio systems I ever had.
Recently my wife bought a Bose Companion 20 system, it is called a computer speaker system but through the aux jack I play my iPod, iPad and the sound is AMAZING.
Fills a large room with clean sound with deep bass.
I had some friends over for dinner and they were trying to figure out where all the sound was coming from.
The nice thing is the speakers are separate so you can aim them.

Its not going to handle heavy hip-hop and the likes with deep bass but for a small reasonably portable system $225 is a bargain IMHO

I can't wait to hear this little radio. I've known about it and the principals behind the sound for sometime now. I'll "corner load" it. I'm sure it will out perform my JVC/Realistic system that is in my bedroom here. For now it will be my only music source at the new house until we move. I looked at some "boom" type systems at BJ's yesterday. The wife said NO. I really don't need a "technical" system in my bedroom. Just something that sounds decent. As we all know anything is better than TV speakers, so I am sure it will do fine in that respect also. I'll find out later this month when I take it, my Denon DVD player and 46" TV down to the new house.

If you really want to be amazed,,go to a Bose store and demo the the new videowave TV with surround sound built in. AMAZING!!!. I would already own one except that the system only has a two year warranty. I am hesitant to spend 5K on something with a warranty that short with no extended warranty available. The sound is Bose, the TV is outsourced from one of the major players in flatscreens. The system is "pricey" but as mentioned earlier in this thread, you get what you pay for.

BTW, if anyone has purchased this, post up as I would like an owners perspective of this product.

OUCH , for a 46"? Bose is definatley pricey. I have been kidding the wife about getting a 80" Sharp Aquas that will fit over our fireplace. We already measured. :D I'll stick with my 52" there for now, my 46" in our bedroom and my daughter has my old 32". Problem is we can not pry her out of her cave now. Yep, a girl cave. She has now asked for a fridge for it. NO.

My Waveradio/CD will be here Thursday from West Columbia, SC. The company is in Framingham, MA. ??? If they were shipping it from MA I'd have it tomorrow.

My babygirl wants my old bedroom system for her new "girl cave" in Myrtle Beach. This will be interesting. I semi sound proofed her room when I gutted it to keep noise from the living room out. I doubt anyhing like that has been done to our new home. I believe my Harmon Kardon electronics, Klipsch loudspeaker combo will win. :D That and get us on the wrong side of our new neighbors. The good thing is they all work, so I can crank my tunes during the day while painting and doing some minor carpentry work. My table saw is already down there.

Find out tomorrow if I can actually go down for the winter. Lousy back... :mad2:

Good gawd, every time I checked the shipping it was to arrive on Thursday, 12/13/12. So it shows up today when I'm not home and they wanted a signature. Must be a new guy, because the regular would have just left it.

If its fedex and they left the tab thing you can sign and write your name at the bottom where it says and tape it to your door and they'll leave it without a signature

I bought one of the first pair of Bose 901s when I got of college...drove them with the big McIntosch amp and McI preamp...Thorens turntable...liked them a lot...some friends who were not fans of those opined "yeah they spread the sound but what kind of sound are they spreaking"...did not bother me much..I liked the Bose ones.
Next up were corner Klipsch horns...went to Hope, Arkansas to talk to Mr. Klipsch with some reps from Home Entertainment in Houston...very interesting trip.
Bought the Bose you are looking at a year ago with the changer and like it a lot in the downsized home we now have since retiring and moving to Wimberley from Houston.
It meets all the requirements we have for a sound system at this point and it sounds great...but I do miss the type of systems I had back in the day.
Good luck with your purchase whatever you decide.

MMcactusflower, did you actually own a pair of the Klipsch Horns? Now those are SPEAKERS. Did Mr. Klipsch do the live vs his speaker presentation? I've never had room for them, until now. :D I told the wife they would sound great in our new home. She was sort of in agreement until I described them. NO! was the response. Hahahaha.

I finally received the Bose Wave today. I'm listening to it right now, some light jazz. It really sounds nice. Discovered I can not stack it with the cable box or forget radio reception. That may present a problem at some point. I don't want to buy the FM antenna until I see if I actually need it at the new place.

Well, I just listened to both discs of Mannheim Steamroller's 25th Christmas Anniverary album. Other than obviously it can not reproduce bass the way my Klipsch speakers do, it performed admirably. I have been listening to MS for years, have seen them in concert and I must say I'm impressed by this little table radio. Wow.
