Must admit, the three brought their A game! I exclude the fourth hacks as they IMO had no right to even be there.
How do you judge?? Innovation and design? All three hands down. Engineering? Both SR. and Jesse pushing the envelope.
How about hand built and mainly solo? My boy Jesse! Not even gonna comment on the non sense deadline crap. Probably scripted anyhow.
Best looks? As much as I dislike JR. I love the style. It tied together very nicely.
Gas Monkey? Please... They didn't even "build" a bike!
Thoughts?
How in the hell Gas Hacks got 2nd will forever be a mystery..

I like the Gas Monkey Garage guys, just didnt like their bike. I voted for them anyhow glad to see they placed well. Not a fan of JR either, but he builds some beautiful damn bikes.

I have always liked Jesse's style. He said it in the show that if you build something with love, it has a soul. And his bikes just have such a personality and the one he did for the build-off has all that feel of his choppers stylistically. But aside from him not making the deadline, some things looked rushed on it to me. And I don't think it was as good as it could have been for how he was describing it - but had that cool Jesse feel.
Senior - the thing I haven't liked with this bike or the last one is it seems like his foundation to start with is to throw as much sophistication, technology, money, etc... and win by basically having the finest of everything. I can't relate to that. The bike turned out really cool and it's one of my favorites that he has done, but I don't have a water jet and I can't afford a 200lb chunk of aluminum to start with. His stuff seems unobtainable to me and that loses something with me.
JR - His was about the best "car theme" I've seen executed to date. And I'm a sucker for indian so I really like his use of the powerplus motors. He to me is the most in tune with the modern day chopper environment and you won't mistake his bike as something that was built 10 years ago. Considering this is supposed to be about choppers - I give him a big nod.
Gas Monkeys - they were the winners in my opinion because I could see that bike sitting in my garage with what I can do with an angle grinder and my Lincoln 140 Mig. I like the grass roots appeal of it, how nothing looked unaffordable and most importantly how well it appeared to function. Hell they rode it to vegas which I'm quite sure the others couldn't do unless they plan their routes gas station to gas station.
But this year they were all really good entries and no one showed up with anything to be disappointed over.
P.S. I really like how Gas Monkeys' motor wouldn't start, and then all their welds on the rockers were leaking. I could totally relate to that.

Bingo, GMG's (my pick) is something easily produceable by someone fairly knowledgeable of building and with modest tools. Easier relatable to the average Joe. Appears to be a lot easier to maintain and more of an everyday ride..
But, that is not usually the judgement criteria. Jr's does seem a little easier to ride than last years, and put together well.
Jesse's my boy, but his an Sr don't really appear to be all that comfortable for a long haul. I do like their rendition of a Harley sport bike. Just to radical for the crowd.

Haven't seen it yet, but just wanted to say that I met Junior, Mikey and Vinny at Mt. Rushmore and they were all great guys. Not too good to talk to you and all that crap. What Jesse James did to his wife is shameful and I don't go for his constant ego trip and trash talk. Senior is a complete waste of flesh and can barely complete a sentence. Gas Monkey guys are funny as hell.

^^^Thats what its about. Sure the people may make kick ass bikes but if they're dicks in real life who cares. Its the people who are still down to earth that are awesome even if they're stuffs not as perfect as other peoples. And I prefer things that are reasonable. Not like $100k bikes etc. Stuff every day people can get if they push themselves. Me and my dad are planning on repainting his bike this winter and modifying it a little bit. Its old and has 8?k miles on it and's on its 3rd engine. Gotta watch more of these build offs to get more ideas

JJ is an Ahole! I was rooting for GM all the way
Honestly none of the bikes had enough chrome for me! :(

Jrs bikes appeal to the non biker crowd and if you want votes, that's how you win. I was impressed with the design and I like how it was layed out. Much better then the OCC GTO and firebird themed bikes they did a few years ago.
Jesses bike was probably the most fabricated out of all but I think it just didn't have the wow factor that would help him get enough votes. He was right in saying that only a fabricator or a hardcore bike lover would appreciate his craftsmanship.
Srs bike I was the most partial to, I liked the look and design of it, just him being Paul sr is what kills any chance of him getting votes. If PJD came out with the same bike, it would have done much better.
GMG, I love those guys and I really respect the fact that they built a bike on time and even rode it all the way out there. They captured the real spirt of a biker build off since there bike is a functional everyday usable bike as compared to the purpose built parade bikes that they were up against. The one thing that killed me was how terrible the host was and how contrived the tension they tried to build between the builders during the show, it just felt really scripted and the host was a moron that was annoying to watch.
I knew PJD would win it but was hoping that either OCC or GMG would have pulled off a upset.

Jr's bike was just like the rest he builds, it's big and more of just a show piece.
Sr's bike was a great idea to go in a totally different direction and build more of a sports style bike but had too much going on for me.
JJ's bike had some crazy fab work done to it, not something I could see being rode everyday and is a show piece. A lot of his work is done the old fashioned way and by himself.
GMG I thought had the best bike, it had a little flair/appeal just to catch your eye, it was rode to the show and really clean and simple. It's something I could see sitting in my garage on a rainy or cold day otherwise I'd be out riding it which is why they got my vote.

JJ and Paul sr got screwed because public opinion not what they made is how people voted
Gas monkeys was nice and simple but it looked like something I could make
Jr's is a typical B.S. theme bike

Heres my take:
Sr's bike: Lots of expensive engineering by a large crew results in a nicely engineered sports type non-chopper motorcycle that looks impractical and uncomfortable;
Jr's bike: Lots of expensive styling by a large crew results in an semi-interesting non-chopper car?/bike? that would be totally impractical to ride with hood ornaments and "Made in New Yorks" crapola falling off at the first pothole;
JJ's Bike: Lots of time consuming hand fabrication results in a well made non-chopper sports bike;
GMG: Real chopper, genuine Harley with a real Harley frame, made by small shop, ridden hundreds of miles in real life, looks cool and the only one I would actually consider riding. Reminded me of an Indian Larry/Dave Mann type chopper.
I vote for GMG.

Overall I though the show was OK, not great. Here’s my :twocents:
Senior- OCC built something different, I honestly don’t think Senior had a thing to do with it other then a couple styling suggestions. I think most of the actual work was done by Skeeter Todd and their CNC operator Jim. The kind of engineering skill it takes to build a bike like that is not something I see Senior being capable of. On the other hand I know that Skeeter would be more then capable of building that bike from the ground up on his own.
Junior- I have to admit I got a little excited when I heard him talking about his idea for the build. Then I saw him mock the grill up and I was done. Yea, overall its kinda cool to look at but it just seems like to many different ideas thrown together trying to make something work . It just doesn’t flow right, plus I never saw him or Senior TOUCH a single tool for the whole 2 hour show.
Jesse- I have to say before the show started Jesse was my pick to win. But his ignorance and piss poor attitude lost it, probably staged. :woohoo: good for you, you can build and forge your own parts. I have a ton of respect for Jesse as a blacksmith. In my mind he is in the same boat as JR and SR. No one would even know his name if it weren’t for Discovery Channel. He said it himself, he has been building the same style of bike since he was 16. Take a look at one of his bikes… then take a look at any of the winners of some of the European Competitions and tell me which is better? The bike is cool, but I like how the first thing they show is Jesse grabbing his motor from a performance shop and later he says he is the only one that fabricates – doing 99% of the motorcycle. So the motor is only 1% of a motorcycle? I don’t remember the last time I looked at my bike and thought the motor was only 1% of it.
GMG- so it has a Title. Matching Engine, Trans, and frame (or at least partly). The work was done in what could be considered a typical shop. It was then ridden from Texas to Las Vegas (reliability run if you will) From the pictures it seems to have been done within a budget that most could afford. Seems to me like it was the only bike that was built without the help of million dollar equipment and deep deep pockets. They have my vote for following the rules and building a bike that would be within the reach of the common man to buy or build.
The bike I’d want to take the first ride on? Jessie’s
The bike I’d want an American company to build and mass produce? Sr’s
The bike I’d want to own the rest of my life? Gas Monkey’s
The bike I wouldn’t want to be seen on? Jr’s

Not to mention GMG bike was really cool. When I saw the before pic of that heap they bought, I would have never seen that badazz chopper hiding in there. Chopping is supposed to make something better (either cooler or faster or both) and you could argue that Paul Jr. and Jesse don't have "better" bikes if they don't run, or are awkward to use. That GMG bike turned from mild to wild and I really dug it.

Ill add that I wish the GMG guys had started off with a nastier frame/engine. That FLH they took apart was actually a period correct dresser in a cool factory color that looked damn nice for being almost 50 years old.

Didn't see these results coming. What did GMG actually do to the bike besides take parts off, build valve covers, and paint? Looked like something anyone on my block could have done in two weeks??
I swear, I thought the votes were tampered with. Apparently not.

Aaron did something to the internals of the motor. Welded some area that caused to it to leak.

Sorry I'm not a bike guy so my feelings revolve around this, Sr is an idiot, Jr is a younger version who will reach his dads level at his fathers age. At first like'd the show but they both are so far into themselves just got sic of them. Jesse "screwed" our American Girl with a bimbo with lettering, and is not the kind of guy I'd like my daughter to come home with if you know what I mean.m.
GAS MONKEY GARAGE CREW seem to be the real thing without deep pockets but I imagine if the stay on the show they can play a little bigger (money wise). But I must admit they sure know how to pick dud's in building there big money projects that always flops at the auctions.
So you want a big to ride and enjoy then gas Monkey won.
