Hey folks, I found this link over at the Subie site I frequent. Before I read the information and looked at the pictures, I thought I know a bunch about how to adjust my mirrors. Well, I was wrong. This morning, I adjusted my mirrors, and... holy crap, what a difference. It was a vast improvement over how I previously saw the cars around me, especially since I drive on congested 8, and sometimes 10 lane highways, all the way into work.
Thanks for letting me share...:D

I read the article, quite good, But what about just using a stick on convex mirror?
Ford makes these, I wonder if they are interchangeable

I pulled the link from a thread started by someone who was asking about using convex mirrors and their effectiveness, and someone decided to drop this article in.

I never use my mirrors. ;) Just put the blinker on (or not) and Yell "Good Luck Everybody Else" and change lanes whenever I want. It works. Sometimes not. I learned this technique in Northern Virginia. :P

I adjust mine so I can just barely see my car in each of the side mirrors. It gives me a reference point. Interior mirror is angled so it sees more of the passenger side but I can still see what is behind me.
For me the secret to mirror adjustment isn't how they are adjusted(w/in reason) but how often you look into them. Some people only look into their mirrors when they want to make a move and that's not good driving. I give my mirrors a quick scan every few seconds so I know what is around me so that if I need to make an emergency move I know where I can go.

+1 I do the exact same. It is called situational awareness. Not just to the front but all around .... rear and sides too. I need the reference point too to serve as an adjustment check. When they are pointed out into the lane as the "proper" adjustment shows, I would never feel comfortable about the adjustment or where I was looking. It may be the proper way, but I gotta have confidence in the adjustment. I always look left (or right) before changing lanes anyway.

Yep, this is how a professionally trained driver is taught to adjust mirrors.
They teach you that you should not see any of the semi-trailer in the side view mirrors. Then when you adjust the convex mirror this way also the combo gives you an extremely good & wide field of view.
