as i was on steeda's website, i seen that they have a clear oil catch can. i like the design because it gives you a direct view on the oil accumulated, plus i think it looks cool. has anybody had any experience with these oil catch cans? are they any good? are there any others out there that are better? i've heard good and bad things about catch cans, and if i get one, id like to know which ones work and which dont. thanks

I payed $100 for it. The JLTs have a nice mesh screen too. Don't know about other brands.

This Picture is not mine but shows the screen.

If you get the JLT and are NA, just the passenger side is the main part of the PCV system you need to worry about.

I used info from this link to make my first one
http://forums.evolutionm.net/evo-how-tos-installations/485682-how-another-diy-catch-can-mod-dual-baffles-extended-inlet-tube.html

Bought my catch can from ebay and then got parts from Lowes and Wal-Mart.

That mesh screen looks like the exact fitting in a 5.0 lower intake manifold.

The rear is where like 90% of the oil comes in. (Eaton Cars) And as Raven said on N/A's its the front. The previous owner of our Cobra put one of Steeda's old ones on (its an air compressor filter) it collects oil but when I did the blower swap the intercooler was still insanely nasty. On our last Cobra I capped off the PCV fittings on the eaton and intake then ran the 2 valve covers to a vented catch can in the fender. That way I could 100% know for sure it wasn't sucking oil in. BUT its not SMOG legal.

Make sure if you do one get a GOOD quality one like JLT. The cheap ones are POS's and don't really do much.

I've never put one on an NA car. I know they suck in a little bit of oil but its not enough I lose sleep over. Now the Eaton setups, dear god they are aweful.

Edit: http://www.steeda.com/store/steeda-mustang-oil-separators.html They still sell it!!! That is the POS on our Cobra right now. Its getting yanked in a few weeks for a JLT one. If you wanted to you can get those parts for 30$ at home depot.

Umm..... you would be quite surprised by just how much an NA car does suck up oil.

It doesn't screw with it as much as a blown car though. Unless your rings are shot and you have a ton of blowby.

I've got a musclemerc catch can on my car, like the looks and excellent workmanship.

I pulled my intake manifold apart @ 150k miles and it was coated and soaked in oil. A good bit of stain on the lower after hitting it with some heavy chemical cleaner.

I made one from a Harbor Freight 1/2" NPT filter and fittings from Home Depot, tee'd the lines together (used 3/4" id hose). Seems to be working fine.

How much oil do these cans catch in a n/a engine ? Are we talking about a tablespoon between oil changes, or ten times that ? (I realize that it depends on the engine, etc, just looking for a rough idea.)

Im in the process of designing my own in my head. Cheap ebay cc, and looking at a 5 micron stainless steel mesh, 2,3or 5 ply. Anybody know of a good micron size to get that will still allow adequate airflow? I can order any size micron mesh.

I must brag it does look like a factory piece, however it is compact enough to be placed pretty much anywhere you wish. It is polished billet aluminum and does capture a lot more oil vapor vs the mesh style cans.

Will these work with a trilogy setup?

The reason I ask is because I remember musclemerc selling 3 different types.

I gave one to Odinson to try and retro fit. I'm not sure of his progress, I"m hoping for word sometime after the new year.
