Fontella Bass, a St. Louis-born soul singer who hit the top of the R&B charts with “Rescue Me” in 1965, has died. She was 72.

R.I.P. Fontella. I loved that song .... sophomore year of High School.

For the longest time I thought Rescue Me was Ms. Franklyn, until I saw it on 60s on 6. Awesome voice. Another sad day for the good era of Pop Music.

Aretha Frankin's signature song was "R-E-S-P-E-C-T".

Glady's Knight (and the Pips) was also a favorite with "Heard it through the Grapevine".

When many people migrated to Psychedelic/Hard Rock and Metal in the 1960's amd 1970's, I moved toward Motown/R&B/Soul as my preferred music style.
