California Legacy plates are a retro throwback design. Yellow plates with black lettering from the 50's, black plates with yellow lettering from the 60's or blue plates with yellow lettering from the 70's.

Currently California is running white plates which look crapy on a black Marauder so I ordered the 60's black plate. I'm hoping to get a personalized plate of '7141'.

California is only taking pre-orders at this time. If by January 2015 (or before) they have 7500 pre-orders will they produce the plates. Otherwise you will get a refund.

Iowa has the same problem as California. The plates here look terrible on black cars. The only way to avoid the baby blue and white plates are getting college plates.....which generally look pretty terrible too...

I would definitely rock those black plates too if I had a choice.

Do these plates stay with the vehicle or go with you?

Good question. I know personalized plates in California stay with you but if you get a sequential legacy plate I don't know.

They will produce them early if they reach the magical 7500 pre-orders.

I still have a set of CA Black plates from the 65 Galaxie I bought out there and drove home. I hear they are keepers!

I like the 'classic' look on the right car. Not sure if it works for the Marauder. I have one in my garage, will need to try it.

You should be able to take the plate with you. I have kept my personalized plate over several cars now. I know someone who kept their standard issue sequential plate over a coue of vehicles - they did not want to memorize a new plate!

Plate covers (as are most modifications) are not allowed in California. However, I agree with you; they look much better!

NO..... I've not ordered mine either...

Yes that NO is a legit VA personalized plate...

In VA plate belongs to owner not the car... If you sell the vehicle, keep plate and transfer to next, return it for refund(refund only if more than 6mo remaining on registration) or keep it as a souvenir... I've had the one that's on my Marauder since Feb of '94, and been on at least 6-8 different vehicles...
