I am taking delivery of a white Focus ST this weekend.
The ST community is unanimously against this new Shelby model, all dress up and no real performance upgrades that can't be had elsewhere for a lot less money.

Typical for Shelby. You're paying for the name. I still like it - but not good enough to pay the money they would want for it.

I like the Mustang part of the article better:

Direct info on the Focus

he 2013 Shelby Focus ST post-title package begins at $14,995 not including the Ford Focus ST.

The new era of Shelby Pocket Rocket has arrived on the NEW Eco-Boost powered 252 horsepower Shelby Focus ST. Shelby performance upgrades in the suspension, brakes, exhaust, wheels and tires turn this popular Ford Focus into a road course dream while still delivering up to 40mpg. Shelby styling cues quickly set this car apart from the pack combining today’s aggressive lines with design points that are uniquely Shelby.
Limited to just 500 cars per year this Shelby serial numbered original will quickly become a hit among first time Shelby owners young and old, and will find its way into the stable of the most seasoned collector.

$15k package ON TOP OF the cost of the Focus to start with, uh no thanks. For $15k you could do a whole lot more work and get a whole lot more power.

To me it's the first Ricer Shelby. It's not a performance car without an improved powertrain. And that rocker panel sticker is HORRENDOUS !!

Yep....as everyone has already said:

A 50% adder to the base price of a Focus ST......WTF!?!?....

Typical Shelby marketing....throw some parts at it, slap on some big SHELBY stickers, and charge WAYYYYYYYY too much $$$$......:shake:

You could throw less than $5,000 at a new Focus ST and get the same, or even better results.
I'm waiting to see what all the other tuners/shops can do with that pocket rocket ST!

Kind of looks like a snake from the front or maybe a salamander or a catfish. Not impressed with the cost to benefit ratio though.

Weren't the GLHS and Shelby Daytona actually seriously impressive for the time though? A buddy of mine from quite a while back had a Chrysler Laser Turbo, which was essentially the Chrysler version of the Daytona, and that thing would scoot for being a nearly 30 year old sport compact.

Might not have been everyone's cup of tea, but those were seriously fast cars for the day, and for the money. Carroll Shelby said the GLH stood for: "Goes Like Hell".

Yep....they were very fast!! (for that era)

Ask me how I know....

Back in the day....I had a late night "run in" with a brand new Shelby GLHS Daytona* on the Capitol Beltway with my '85 Mustang 5.0.
Allegedly, we raced from the Woodrow Wilson Bridge to the I-95 Northbound exit (I was heading back to Baltimore)
It was DEAD even for miles!
50-90 MPH....even
75-110 MPH....even
90- 125 MPH....even
He topped out at @ 137 MPH.
My GT ran into the aerodynamic wall @ 139 MPH.
I crawled past him at howling WOT in 5th gear and got a few car lengths.
We gave each other the  when I exited northbound on I-95.

That was the only time I've ever had my doors literally sucked out of their frames...the passenger side door started to pull out of the car's body above 130 MPH and it sounded like a frickin' tornado in my right ear!.....

*GLHS Daytona was better looking and IIRC had better brakes than the GLHS Omni.
BTW: I know where a Silver and Blue GLHS Daytona is sitting, rotting in a yard in Laurel, Md.....:bigcry:

Fastest I've ever been clocked and caught was in a 1988 Dodge Daytona. Decent little car, it'd blaze the front tires in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd but it wouldn't do the whole 125 on the speedo in 5th on a long straightaway. Topped out right about 118, just under the 120 peg. Trooper said 113, I said 118, what's 5 mph between friends? :D He cut me a massive break, wrote the ticket for 9 over. Hatchback, too. Miss that little car sometimes.

Yes, it will be interesting as this car has been praised in every review I've seen.
I don't think it will be like the Marauder, which was pretty much abandoned by the aftermarket after such a slow start sales-wise.

I chose white to keep the car as under the radar as possible.
I'll be using it for my weekly commute to the airport, but I'm going to get serious with it as a road track car.

You are right. The basic ST goes for about 23K. Mine will be 25k with Recaaro's etc. The Shelby version adds a bunch of ugliness. ( I do like the hood vents though.) IMHO.

I was BIG into the 2.2 turbo dodge cars befor I bought the marauder. Then sold off every 2.2 item I had. I had plenty of work done to my 89 Lebanon coupe inner cooled 5 speed car. Ran 13.5 in the 1/4 beat plenty of mustangs and Camaros. I even owned a Shelby lancer and a spirit r/t. I raced the spirit against my marauder hung with it door to door. I miss them little sleepers. But I injoy my big sleeper better.
