I've got a little coin set aside and plan to use my spring break week to finally move a few things from my "Marauder to do" list to the 'got done' list. Everything I have planned to do is cosmetic stuff...no go-fast mods. I have developed an itch recently to move up to the next level...when that 'itch' starts bugging me, I just show it my bank account and it goes away... Sooo, I'm trying to think of a compromise for my 'itch'...I don't want it to go completely away, but don't have the means to fully sate it at this time.
Right now I have a tune and 4.10s. What other go-fast mods can I accomplish w/o getting into SC territory? Will these mods be worth it, or should I just continue to save what I can, when I can for a future SC upgrade? Are there go-fast mods that would seem a bit 'silly' (no real benefit) to do on a N/A car? Are there go-fast mods that can be accomplished that would tie-in with getting SC'ed?
I realize going SC is more than just slapping a blower on...lots of other pieces are needed to make it work like it's supposed to. I was VERY tempted to jump on Blown 3.8's Whipple the other day, but that would've exhausted every penny and a bag of chips. Who knows how long it would just be sitting around before actually getting installed...:shake:
Thanks for your input...

You may consider climbing a little further out of that hole that you mentioned back in October 2012 before investing too much in the car. JMHO.

Figure on about $4,500 for an Eaton swap.
Mo's can do the install for you.

Thanks for the advice, Charlie. I've spent about $5000 in lawyers, etc over the past 12 months to get my life back on track. I've lost half of my retirement savings and 24% of my retirement check as well and had to file for bankruptcy. However, I still managed to survive, squirrel away some money now and then, and have invested in my kids' futures. I was lucky to get a few breaks, but the biggest break was being able to go back to school and not have to pay a dime. My investment into the GI Bill 21 years ago has paid bigger dividends than I could imagine...it bought me the time I needed to get my life straightened out and actually helped me financially as well. While it is a good possibility that I may not be able to stay in school long enough to get my degree, I have already received a return far greater than what I put into it.
I have spent the last 18 months getting what I want to customize my MM...a piece here, a piece there, and now I'm ready to put those pieces in place. My desire to get SC'ed is just that right now...desire. Very similar to my desire to buy an MM, a desire that I held on to for over 5 years; I had the opportunity to act on that desire and am sooo glad that I did. Another investment that has given back more than I expected. I realize the step into SC-land is not going to happen in the near future and that things can change between now and then.
I'm just curious to see what other options I have before entering SC-land. Once I get a list of options I will use the same process I have used over the past 18 months to determine what I want the most and what I should pass up on. I also realize that I get a little 'punchy' when several months go by and all I've done to my MM is wash it and drive it around...I've been feeling 'punchy' for several weeks now. Fortunately, I have items in hand to do some things to my MM which will probably be enough to keep me content for a while. If I feel or think I am putting more into my MM than other, more important facets of my life, then I will need to be smart enough to change that...even if it means selling it.
However, it doesn't hurt to dream...

Why not drop a few hundred on Addcos? I know it won't up the horsepower but it'll make the car more fun to drive...

I don't have a CAI...I have AT mufflers and am more than happy with the sound. In a nutshell, I guess the changes the 410s made to my MM are beginning to fade some...now that I've had them on for 8 months, the WOW factor is more of a 'yeah, it's supposed to do that' factor.
Will a CAI make a noted difference in performance, or is the up-tick something that's only seen on the 1/4 mile? IMO, a CAI is something that belongs on a SC'ed car more than a NA car, but that's maily due to me not knowing how much of a difference a CAI can make...

Cai is I nice way to add a little HP. It's more than just in the 1/4.
I can't tell you the difference on your set up versus adding it on. But I can say on my old Marauder I had 410s, headers, CAI and a tune and was very pleased.

You might want to consider underdrive pulleys and a dyno tune. PM FastBlackMerc about where to go for a tune.

If your looking to get a sc in the near future just start plugging away at the cheaper parts on that list. It's not like your going to have the money for a eaton swap and it will be at URL front door the next day. Might as well start now!

I have thought about this, but am in the mindset these would be more beneficial on a higher-powered MM than a N/A with 4.10s. I consider upgrading the sway bars as a piece of the SC puzzle; something to have installed if I know for a fact I will get SC'ed. If you think I might be missing out, though, please let me know.

Thanks, Brad. I've been thinking about a CAI, but didn't know if having one on a N/A MM would be viewed the same as putting Buick portholes on a non-Buick vehicle...:D

I'm considering a trip to MO's during my spring break...underdrive pulleys...don't know much about them and their benefits, but will put it on my list....thanks!

If I knew for certain I will be able to go SC within the next year or so, I'd be on this path already. But, I just don't know, and like Charlie suggested, I don't want to invest big money into my car and not be able to put the icing on the cake. I guess I'm looking for the cheaper parts that I can put on my MM now AND still be able to use if I have the opportunity to go SC later on. Right now, I'm thinking CAI, upgrade the sway bars, take my MM to MO's and see if I could be running on a better tune (and have J-mod done while there). But the list is just starting, so too early to tell.
Thanks for eveyone's input...keep it comin'!

I wouldnt waste my money on underdrive pulleys if you are going to go s/c in the future. I would do the jmod, CA's, headers and tune.
The eaton swap requires alot of different parts so you should make up a list and then start buying parts. A little here and a little there adds up. You will not be happy until you go s/c.

Ummm I think Blown 3.8s blower is for a built engine. If you are running stock stay away from that blower.... unless you want to buy it and store it until you have forged internals. I could be wrong.
Get a 3500 stall torque converter. To this day it's my favorite mod.

Many different ways to go, I like to focus on the suspension before h.p. mods, I would do Addco sway bars and Metco control arms and watts link!
Some of the best mods for the dollar, your car will handle like a Vette on rails!

The sway bar and the control arms will definitely improve handling, but they're not going to improve performance, need the gears and a tune for that.

JMOD, Headers, Control arms. TCE brake lines are a great low buck upgrade.
IMHO, the ADDCOs were a great improvement on the street, not faster but able to corner flatter and therefore quicker in turns.
If I had to do it over again I probably would have not done the front sway bar as I think it's hurting me in the 1320

Stainless Works long tubes! You gain 20-25 HP and about the same torque, plus better mileage when your foot isn't in it. SW Headers + Aero turbines may be a bit loud for you though so you may want to swap those out after.
MAUCAT is the kit you want - bolts right up to factory exhaust - no welding!

Most of us did what you have already done along with what most have said here as add ons way before getting into or going to S/C .....with that being said, I think the under drives,,CAI, upgraded sway bar in the rear, up-graded control arms and then brakes---any of which your buget can afford should be done to the point where all have been ......thats what I did all before S/C .....
As these get done --you will feel the change and the car getting tighter so to speak and control much better --and more fun with one or two being done at a time($$$$)........but THER ALL in my opinion should be done....
The UD's can be removed as mentioned if ever going S/C--and probably re-sold--not a big deal.....
You already have the 410's and a good beginning--so pick what has been mentioned--they are all good for the underside---
The outside, well the s-55 treatment , is always a nice appeal in my opinion, and of course the grill changout ---but that's opinionated
The good thiing--there is still pleanty for you to do....and like the Rolling Stones song....Time is on your side ------Keep us posted ....Tom

Precisely what I was going to say. I know it's not go-fast mods, but getting some cosmetic work done will make a huge difference. Ask me how I know
how do you know?
Ok thanks for asking. so basically i was in the same spot you were on my old car: See your quote below
...now that I've had them on for 8 months, the WOW factor is more of a 'yeah, it's supposed to do that' factor.
I had my Marauder finally paid off but still wasnt able to get the big ticket items yet (brake kit, suspension, exhaust, etc) so I decided to make my Marauder more personal: Painted my calipers, added a chin spoiler, blackened the wheels. HIDs, etc... I mean my car was pretty much the same in terms of performance but little by little I was changing the appearance, and honestly I loved driving it even more. Every time i parked it, i always had to glance back to look at it. It's little simple things you can do to get that WOW factor back in without the go fast mods.
Just my $.03
whatever you decide to do will be awesome because it's your machine, your project, your blood sweat and tears. Good luck man

Thanks again for all the input everyone. I'm starting to see a common theme here, which is a good thing. I don't know about headers or longtubes...those items may bust my budget at this time.
Can't wait to get my 'spring break' project list done...I wanna show up at Looseville and be able to show off what I've done. ;)
I'll search the forum to get opinions on which CAI I should go with. Have been getting light freezing rain since sunrise; classes were canxed today and I won't be going anywhere any time soon...hoping we will get above freezing later so I'll be able to get my kids.

So, over the past few weeks, I have purchased the following:
New headlight assemblies from Tousley
Slotted & drilled rotors from brakemotive (ebay)
Brake caliper paint (G2)
JLT CAI (thanks My04Rawdur)
Various bits-n-pieces for other minor cosmetic projects
I also have tentative plans to visit Marty-O and have my windows tinted by Gordy while I'm in the area.
I think (at least I hope) that when I get all of these items taken care of, my craving to customize my car will be satisfied for the time being. If not, no biggie...I still have a half dozen projects on my list that haven't been addressed yet. ;)
Spring break will hold an entirely new meaning for me...as in breaking my back (and my bank) to get all of this done...

Well, yesterday was my brother's b-day, but I'm the one that got all the presents.;)
Headed over to FastBlackMerc's place today (was supposed to yesterday, but the threat of snow required a 24hr delay) and got some more work done on my MM. The biggest improvement was installing my Kenwood 7" screen stereo unit (DNX9140)...the sound quality is sooo much better than the factory radio; now I need to upgrade my speakers... It'll take me a couple weeks to learn all the bells and whistles on this sucker.
I was proud of myself for remembering to eject the CD magazine from the changer before we took out the factory stereo (lesson learned from an install many years ago), but I forgot about the CD in the stereo itself...:mad2:. Oh well, can't win them all. We went ahead and ran the remote power wire and RCA cables back to the trunk, so now all I need to do is run the main power wire from the battery to the trunk and I'll be set! We removed the bottom of the back seat in the process and, HOLY CRAP...look at all that crap! I found the characters from "Land of the Lost" back there as well as a rough draft of the Gettysburg address. :D If anyone's interested, I've got a collection of fries from all the great fast food joints...might be a little hard to swallow, though....
So, I drive back home, enjoying my latest LED upgrades and my new stereo and when I walk up to the door of my place, I see...not one....not two....but 3 packages!! My new headlamp assemblies and my drilled/slotted rotors!:banana::banana:
"Wonder when my caliper paint will show up?", I think; this jogs my memory. I remember getting ready to place the order for the caliper paint when a friend called me. It was late when I finished talking, so went to bed and totally forgot to finish my order. BUUuuut, that turned out to be a good thing, because within a couple hours after NOT placing my order, I got an email from G2 saying "blah, blah, we noticed you started an order but didn't place it, blah, blah, if you order within the next hour, SHIPPING IS FREE!".
So, that's the under the radar 'promo code'....pick the stuff you want to buy, fill everything out, but don't finish the order; you should receive an email within a couple hours offering free shipping.
So, 'twas a very good day, indeed.

yep that is starting to become the norm on most E-commerce sites. you go all the way to checkout & then balk, they'll remember it. I think it's why you r forced to put in all your contact info (name, address, email) in the 1st step. I've put stuff into checkout & balked at the last step simply because thats the only page you can finally find out what the total price is. sometimes I find the price with shipping is ridiculous so I quit. lol
still congrats on getting a bunch of stuff done. I havent done anything this winter :(

So, just ordered my caliper paint, which I know isn't breaking news, but thought I'd share a little 'quirk' that happened while ordering with everyone...
Went to the G2 site around 6:30 and did everything but actually place the order. Sure enough, at 8:42pm I got an email from them with the free shipping offer. So, back to the website I go, enter the promo code and get an 'invalid coupon' response. I was a bit perplexed since I had just received the code 20 minutes ago (it has a 1 hour time limit). So I copy/pasted the promo code from my email into the space provided on the G2 website and it worked.
Just thought I'd pass thing along....

Got to meet Marty and his crew and Gordy (Clint)...great peeps; part of the reason for my trip was to meet people. Had a great time hangin' with Brad, Dave, and Mike at TK Monday night. Drank too much and yakked the next morning...my ribs are sore today...lol. Didn't get to Mo's until 1230 when I was supposed to be there at 10...oops. Halfway to Mo's I realized I left my cell phone at Brad's place...double oops...but I got to hang out with him again at TK last night for a couple hours before I came back home.

Hey man, it was great getting to meet you too. Definitely enjoyed the good conversation. Look forward to the next time and if you ever need anything, do not hesitate to ask.

You may consider climbing a little further out of that hole that you mentioned back in October 2012 before investing too much in the car. JMHO.
agreed, don't get in too deep too fast or you may put yourself in a bad situation and have to sell your baby.

Got back last night from my trip to GA. Got my windows tinted (thanks Gordy!) and got my CAI installed at Mo's (Thanks guys!). Cleaned the TB and IAC...they were n-a-s-t-y! Finally used the can of Sea Foam I won at MV9...good smoke show!
Gonna head to Russ's place in Monroe Friday morning to install my drilled/slotted rotors and paint my brake calipers.
Ordered and received my Xpel film to put on my new headlamps. Hoping to get over to FastBlackMerc's place weekend after next to finish up my LED/lighting upgrades.
Overall I'm very happy that I'm finally getting stuff done to my MM. Thinking I might be able to visit Marty again in May...will have to see which road I want to take then....performance mods vs appearance mods.
Is it April yet?
HOLY MOLY!!
i'm hoping to pull into louisville (under the canopy!!!) and have all the guys do those mods while i check in and take a shower. :D
