Livernois Built 5.8L Big Bore Shortblock and 5.4L Longblock

Lately, we've been doing a lot of Shelby builds for customers all over the Country and I decided to get a few shots of a customer 5.4L Longblock and sleeved 5.8L Shortblock (that will be converted into a longblock before it ships). We also have a few sleeved 5.0L's and at least one more sleeved 5.4 in que.

This longblock is an aluminum block, with our custom forged, fully coated pistons, billet I-beam rods, OEM crankshaft, Livernois Motorsports CNC Cylinder Heads, Livernois Motorsports GT500 Stage 1C Camshafts, all covers, pulleys, etc. and customer supplied 2013 Shelby Supercharger.

The engine next to it is a sleeved GT block which is sleeved and assembled in-house. This is 358ci or 5.8L. It will also be a complete longblock with a 4.0L Whipple. This one has our custom forged, fully coated pistons, Carrillo Billet Rods and a SCAT Billet Crankshaft.

With looking at the other post re superbirds etc now this shop and the cars and prices made me thing back in my youth, hell we had no money and lived in the junk yard for parts. Headers??? Nope we took 2.5 or 3 inch pipe with a cap and welded to the exhaust for cutouts, remember putting an 283 in a Austin Healey, we about killled ourself in that coffin, my 57 chevy had a locked rear end for posi. If you ever drove a car with a locked rearend you turn even just a little and it would bind up and you swear it was laying in the street! On the old ford carbs we used sheet metal screws in carb linkage so all 4 barrels would open at the same time, had to learn how to get the r'ssss up so ya wouldn't bogg down when ya dropped the clutch, oh yay New Clutch or trans every other month, got to be real fast laying on your back and just whipping them in and out. Then slicks?????? Na snow tires and NOT recap as I found out do not work very well, never forget that night. Na now you have $7,000 packages, $28,000 packages! Now all this isn't bad it just I don't think I'm gonna live long enough to pay thems pachages off! In fact I'd have to go back to work! Would that be revolting! Just saying!!!!!!!!!!!

You guys made it easier for us nowadays.

Ya know Landy I don't know what we helped but it seemed to be more fun and I seriously believe it made you learn how to work on a car because you had to learn or drive a rambler. Opps even some Rambler's (Rebel's) could kick some ass! I see some of these guys ask some questions and shake my head, how can they own a Marauder and ask some stupid (what I consider simple) question! But it's really not their fault as they have not been forced or needed to learn and the cars now are really a marvle's of tech. I DO NOT KNOW a lot about tuning now but I do know the basic's as we had to and did build a lot of engines. LIKE duel points! WOW! Bet some who read this say what? points? There was a time when the High schools had shop courses etc to learn but I don't hear about those course's now, actually thats to bad!
Evan today it's hard to find a good tuner but in the 50's-60's it was worse, my 57 chevy had fuel injection, NONE of the chevy dealer's knew how to fix or tune them in fact they had them all screwed up so we had to go to Wiley's garage at 12100 and western ave (Blue Island) on the south side. One of maybe two or three garages with a dyno in the whole city of Chicago. Yep make a appointment weeks in advance and shot for thursday or Friady so ya could get to Route 30 drag strip on Sat/Sunday!
Interresting note was my wife went only "one" time to the drag strip with me (before we were married) and a real pretty 55 chevy blew a clutch coming off the line (no skater sheild) . I't blew a hole through the floor and actually bent the dash board almost like a U, almost took the drivers right leg off. Cut the brake lines and the car swerved to the left towards the Pit's and it's killed two people. It was like a bomb went off! Come to think about it I bet 80-90% of the people on this site never saw a clutch blow, outcome was she never went again.
Sorry I didn't mean to Hijack this mans thread so please forgive this old man sooooooooo I'll shut up!!!!

Learn how to fix it or walk. Rarely bought new parts, replaced nine transmissions in my first car bought for less than $10.00 each. Guy at the junkyard knew me by name. The days seemed longer then too.

Did ya ever do over the fence for expensive stuff? You paid what ya took through the front gate, so over the fence to pick up after dark!
Knew a guy who worked at the ford assembly plant at 130th street, actually a good old southern boy who was as mean as hell! Called him Tenn, for $600.00 to $800 a forklift could and did drop a complete 427/2x4's over the fence, hell I never could afford it but I did help carry/move one once. Actually had air cleaner and everything.
Don't know how I stayed outta trouble so long! Just lucky I guess. Not cheap as the whole cars were $2,500 to $3,500
