I agree. I don't like the white seats. I wonder what the specs are on it.

Mazda and Ford used to play footsie many years ago as Ford had a % stake in Mazda. Not sure what their relationship is anymore.

As for your second ? More likely a Probe II :lol:

I wonder if it has a Wankel... Will look it up.

RX7 was a blast to drive, rotory torque curve doesn't end.

Sharp!

Ford used to own a percentage of Mazda. Ford sold off the stocks before the drop in the market. This was only a small part of the reason Ford did not need bailout money from the government.

This tells a lot, saving money by partnering in product design and development....look at the Mazda 2 and Fiesta, they still have a relationship.
That car is sweet!

I expect if it says RX on it it'll be a Wankel. I gotta admit, I love the way they sound when your stompin' the guts out of them:

The RX-8 was also technically a four-door.

IMO, if it doesn't have a rotary engine, or if it is some sort of rotary-electric hybrid, it has no business wearing an RX badge...

Yeah I know the 8's had the backward opening doors but this one is full on 4 door. Thought they were sports cars not sedans... ain't that what the 6 is for? looks like its getting bloated and slow.

From an article in Top Speed:
Under the hood, Mazda will place a 16X rotary engine rumored to be attached to an electric supercharger. This engine will feature an 800cc x 2 configuration, up from the current 13B’s 654cc x 2 format. It will deliver around 300 (http://www.topspeed.com/cars/mazda/2013-mazda-rx-9-coupe-ar99495.html#) HP, while the fuel economy will be improved by 20%, leaving behind the main reason why the RX8 needed to be discontinued. The engine will be mated to a new twin-clutch, two-pedal six-speed transmission with a twist that allows drivers to set the revs at which the clutches engage.
It is also rumored that the RX-9 will be offered with a Honda-style gas/electric hybrid system that will not only include a regenerative braking system to charge the batteries when coasting and decelerating, but also an engine stop/start system that will help improve the fuel economy (http://www.topspeed.com/cars/mazda/2013-mazda-rx-9-coupe-ar99495.html#). This rumor has already been confirmed by a Mazda insider who in a previous interview said : "We’re testing the rotary in conjunction with technologies including an electric turbocharger."
The RX-9 will be offered with 17- or 18-inch wheels and four-wheel disc brakes with ABS and stability/traction control.

Part of this makes me sad, and part of this leaves me in disbelief.

The rotary is not an economy engine. It is an engine designed purely to make power, and in a light-weight chassis with proper suspension will give you an astounding racing vehicle.

What would be fantastic is if they stopped making those damn twin rotors and moved up to a quad or at least a triple rotor already. THOSE rotary engines don't sound like weed wackers at least, for those that just can't stand a sound other than a V8...

R26B, Mazda's racing quad rotor:

AQOinskUF38

Imagine driving a car that sounded like THAT on the street...

Or even the 20B engine:

8RxGCVrpJ5M

The power potential of either engine is stupendous, almost as simple as add more air = you have more power.

The only downfall is that they just aren't realistic for a heavy vehicle, but again, these are pure performance motors, it just kills the spirit of the RX name to try to make an econo-car out of one. :(

(There....fixed it for ya!!!)

ROFL......

That's exactly what I was thinking!

BTW: The first video actually starts with the title: "Mazda R26B warming up Hiroshima"
I think Hiroshima has been warm for.....:hmmm:.....ohhhhhh.... .about 67 years!
I know....I know...I'm NOT politically correct!

Rotary engines are great racing engines with very high output per CID and weight....but are crappy street engines with lousy thermodynamic efficiency and very poor gas mileage.

....but are crappy street engines with lousy thermodynamic efficiency and very poor gas mileage.

In all fairness, that's a lot of racing engines though, isn't it? :D

Seriously though, I agree pretty much 100%. I think anyone that bought even an RX8 because they thought it would be a good DD for economy either got suckered or willfully chose to ignore the reality of the situation.

RX cars are driver's cars, pure and simple. You have to like cornering over drag racing and you have to enjoy power that surges on as the RPM increase as opposed to hefty torque at low RPM (a la V8) if you expect to fully enjoy one.

I'm sure that's just a concept car. So I wouldn't get too excited about it.
