I will tell you this show is really well done. If you were a fan of the West Wing, you'll love it. However conservatives out there probably won't feel the same

Ha, come on man, Im a conservative and have enjoyed the show and that scene is a great moment of someone being honest. Its a shame you only see that kind of honesty in a fake newsman.

So what country is the greatest? CHINA? INDIA? JAPAN? How about ****ing AUSTRALIA?
If it were not for the USA, the entire world would be in turmoil. We have our problems, like any nation of 320 million people would have.
Give me a break.

Tom, it's a fictional TV show and this outburst is the beginning of a season long story line, don't take it so personal.
It's actually a really good show about a news show that desperately wants to portray facts in their stories regardless of affiliation and the networks pressure to please their sponsors and get ratings
It's a great push/pull battle that plays out with some great dialogue, writing and acting

Behind the scenes it is the true feelings of the writers and actors.
Of course I take it personal. I'm an American and I'm proud of my country. And I don't appreciate Hollywood liberals spewing out garbage to young, impressionable minds in this show or the multitude or other trash they pass off as entertainment.

Nothing is wrong with the Aussies. But name one major contribution to the welfare and stability of the world that they have made. There may be a few but I can't think of one.

No one likes Hollywood Liberals lol, but come on man, I am too a very proud American with my family arriving here in 1696, but I unfortunately live in "Realville" and to believe this Country is the great Country it once was is just a hard thing to believe anymore. We are so far from what we were meant to be, this is not what our fathers wanted for us.

You know what guys?
I don't give a fat rat's ass about Liberals, Conservatives, Obama, etc...
Political threads are a disaster, and they piss me off once I see them.
I hate closing threads, but I will do so just because I can.

I was hoping this wouldn't really turn into a political debate thread.
Even with the video clip being from a tv show the writers really struck a nail on the head with what they wrote for Jeff Daniels character and summed it all up with what is wrong with this country.
Here is another great clip

Well, aside from saying he didn't think America was the greatest country AT THE MOMENT (which means it can be turned around), he cited specific reasons that he used to form that opinion. I don't believe any of those reasons were off-base.
If I were you, I'd be more concerned about the youth being told things like "you are special, no matter what" and that their feelings are more important than what is genuinely right and wrong and that they are entitled to receive certain things, like high-pay and respect, without having to earn it.
If you are really worried about America being the greatest country, instead of saying "we're the best", why not let your actions speak for you and actually BE the best?
I'm not seeing that much in today's newer generation, for the above reasons, and because of that I can't even try to fool myself into thinking this nation is unquestionably above the rest. It is no doubt that there were generations that made this country great, but these newest ones (maybe within the past 20-30 years?) don't even seem close.
I can't tell you who has earned that title at this point in time, but I know even if we have it, we sure as **** don't deserve it, or at least it's shaping up that way more and more every day...

Well said, very well said.
Maybe the challenge with America is that we keep saying we are the best, maybe that's why so much of the world loathes us
It's easy to brag about being the best, but you have to back it up.
So much of our core areas rank nowhere near the top

I will defend this country's honor to my last dying breath against anyone who tries to discredit or deprive the USA of its' rightful place as the greatest democracy in the history of the world. The sacrifices we and our forefathers have made to the world are beyond recognition, and very few people appreciate it, nor have the ability to.
Why more people don't speak out here in a thread about how this country is supposedly no longer the greatest hope of the world is beyond my understanding. I guess they're afraid. Re-read the title of the thread. Truly, I am stunned that I am the only one who spoke up. And don't blame it on some Hollywood "acting".
I did not start the thread, I am just a defender. So don't come down on me.

It's more like everywhere I look I see the things that this country once stood for being run into the ground; rampant commercialism, selfishness beyond charity, hedonism above doing what's right or sometimes what simply must be done. Those are a few examples.
It's not that I don't find it admirable to fight for the reputation of the nation one represents, but the simple fact of the matter is that most of those generations that did bring this country to its height have passed on, and we younger generations (specifically, my peer group and younger) can't seriously expect to coast on that hard work forever. But that's the way it's looking right now.
There's a huge difference between not wanting the nation to be the best, and not believing it's the best right now. I only fall under the latter category, not the former.

The Greatest Country did not create the greatest amount of wealth for the greatest number of people while freeing the greatest number of people from tyranny.
The country was founded by supremacist who established a document to maintain their supremacy and to allow wealth to be unfairly accumulated. Social Justice via Income Redistribution until complete collapse starts us all at zero is the only way to make things "fair" and correct the wrongs of the past.
