View Full Version : JLT CAI Fell off

I have done a search on fixes for the problem w/ the JLT CAI falling off and found a lot of mustang owners that have had the same problem. Some fixes listed were to use hair spray, glue, sanding and putting a screw in the metal tie. I wondering if anyone here w/ JLT CAI has had this problem and found a fix. It seems like the CAI is just too heavy to depend on that one connection.

I have had a JLT for years, and never, has this happened.
Need more details and pics if possible, detailing what and where this is falling off.

I think this is a FIRST!
Was it properly installed?

The K&N has a support bar about halfway down the holds up the tube and cone. Doesn't the JLT have a support bar? Maybe it's missing

No........ tube was wire tied to the rubber adapters, that was posted in another thread.

No support bar, only a heat shield.

Spectra mines looks just like MM2004's, maybe wire tire isnt the proper term. But you screw it to tighten it.

Mine is fine too. Did you over tighten and strip the clamp notches?

Your right then, it's not a wire tie. You can get new adapters and clamps from Frozen Boost.

If you will look closely at the bottom left of the picture you will see an L bracket mounted to the bottom of the Transistion and an empty stud from the previously removed stock air Box. That put bracing to support one end of the CAI. Worked for me.

Made my own bracket as well. Don't really see the issue? Just get creative..

My JLT never had an issue falling off, although I do think I fit the rubber couplers and elbows and such a fair bit further onto whatever they were grabbing. I remember before I went to that trouble, it used to rub under the hood.
That's impressive that people can "install" it in such a way that it falls completely off...

How far over the throttle body opening are you guys sliding the elbow coupler?
I used to be able to shake mine up and down from the filter end like an over-exaggerated hand shake and it still wouldn't budge...

No support bracket from JLT? That seems weird and crude that they would let all that weight hang off the throttle body like that.

I made my own bracket similar to the earlier post. No problems, but I did not trust it without the bracket.

I've had one since 2005. Never had this problem. Sounds like a bad worm screw on the clamp!

I had it on for 2 years and never had this problem before so i think that it may be the screw. I will get a new clamp and screw and make a bracket as suggested. Thanks to the people that provided a solution to the problem and didnt just say Ive never had this happen.

If I recall correctly, some early JLTs had substandard PVC used that would shrink under the hot conditions in the engine compartment. How old is your JLT?

I have the same problem. Never thought if I used a bracket like suggested here would help, might try that over the summer see if I can still save my hood:D

The worst problem I have had is that the filter is a little wrinkled from the engine trying to SUCK more air. Not a bad thing...........

hmm, mine is wedged in by the headlight and it doesn't move at all. i have to loosen the throttle body clamps and remove that end first to get it out.

Mine wouldnt stay on when I first got it....just use some soap and water to clean off the oily stuff off the rubber piece and problem solved....
