It's a pic of the Flambeaux Carriers lining up before the parade. There are 8 in a row. As the parade goes by they merge in.
They carry a kerosene can on the top of a pole that feeds 8 burners in a hole on a belt for 4 hours. They dance and spin the pole creating a certain effect from shadows, soot and light that only a kerosene flame can produce.
In the days of yore they lighted the parade. Today they still provide light however they produce an effect that is my favorite part of a parade.
