cool article. thanks for sharing. I'm sure there will be some anti-bowtie comments here but for me, I like the concept. the SS looks pretty plain IMO, but I think thats what makes a sleeper a sleeper.

Now if Chevy can go down to Australia & pull ideas from our Aussie counterparts why can't Ford do the same thing? I've seen pictures posted here of the Taurus Australian version & it looked pretty bad ass!

hopefully if Chevy can pull this off & have strong sales, perhaps Ford can follow suit.

Don't care much for the nose of the car (those LED's look slapped on), but see some Jag similarities from the side. No denying the engine is a hitter. Wonder what it weighs? Wonder if it will live up to its billing in the article.

If it does, i'd say they will easily move 5k units a year.:burnout:

nice article but I was left with this quote as a reminder
"Chevy hasn't been known for making really good cars for a long time"
i am stuck holding a pos known as their vti trans in an 04 ion. was told I bought the car 6mos too late to be helped (67000 on the clock)
this is one guy who has vowed to never give GM a dime of money, no matter how sweet the candy is. Yep I take it personal.

I'm not thrilled with its nose either, nor am I eager to give money to Government Motors, but I AM glad a domestic manufacturer is marketing a full-size correct-wheel drive sedan...one without a ludicrously complex twin-turbo nightmare of an engine.

There must be some kind of internal mandate at Ford which proclaims "No car shall have 4 doors AND traditional performance".

Oh look Chevy built a Lexus!

Nice car, basically a Pontiac G8 GXP with a new (uglier) nose. No word on if you can get a manual trans but still a very nice car.

+1!

Kudos to Chevy for making a RWD V8 sedan for us!

But the grille and bumper openings sit way too high...:shake:
Looks like the car is "wrinkling its' nose" and smelling a fart or something....just lower them both @ 1inch, so that they follow the headlight and bumper lines and the SS would look great.
As it sits right now....it just looks FUG*LY.

It's better than nothing.

Pretty much every hot V8 car for GM since '02 (sans the Corvette) has been sourced from their Australian subsidiaries. When GM looks for power these days, they go to Australia...

Kinda nice but, i like em big n long(no pun intended). I know the future is upon us but, i just can't get with these mid sized sedans. Why am i seeing so many Toyota and Honda(etc) mimics??
Nice aussie though....

We've got some of these in service at the Sheriff's Office (in their "Caprice" police package guise) - they are quite nice.

Mr. Man
02-16-2013, 02:41 PM
I like it, though I think the upper grille should be a little bigger and the lower grille area smaller.

I won't hold my breath in thinking it's a large sedan though until I can sit in one. My guess is it's what I would call a mid-sized car when car companies actually made large sedans.

Power sounds good for a DD for those of us who like power. Reliability? :dunno:

I would like to see what other colors it comes in. The silver they show doesn't really flatter the shape much or perhaps silver hides something they don't want us to note.

Going to hold final judgement till I see one in person.

Vortex

Actually I think the Caprice is based off the long wheelbase version of the Commodore; the G8 and now the SS are based of the normal Commodore. They also sell a real nice Buick Park Avenue in China that is off the long wheelbase version and it looks better than all of these to my eyes.

G8 GT's based around 32k... With options you could hit 35+.... GXP's started around 37 and went to around 43k MSRP.... As I recall from the times I saw them at dealerships...

This ford looks beautiful..... I was really looking forward to this car especially the rumor it was to have the new new LT1; instead they slapped an LS3 in it and called it a day. This is just an uglier looking g8 gxp. (Not calling the gxp ugly or the ls3 a bad engine) but its time for an update its 2013! Awesome! paddle shifters another thing most people hate. I am glad GM chose those instead of including an optional stick. I could complain all day about how disappointed I am.

What's next GM? Giving the new Buick GNX an LS engine instead of a turbo 6 (which it deserves) or at a minimum the LT1.

Glad to see a V8 RWD car but it's too small. Looks the size of a 4dr Camaro. (Needs some styling work too, looks a little like it got hit with the ugly stick.)

As I never will, in my lifetime, buy a new GM product - the only way I could get one would be to fall in to a "deal I could not pass up" on a used one.

I still have the hope that the boobs that took over the reins at Ford get their heads out of their arses and bring about something Pantheresk. Till then, I'll just keep picking up the used ones as they come.

Man, we sat in the Audi's A8, Lexus LS 460, Jaguar, Nissan Maximas,'Cadillac's, Volvo's and a few others. They were all piles of dog crap. None to little elbow room with little rear passenger room low roof height while my head touch or grazed the roof. Narrow seats, seats hard as a rock. Volvos really retarded dash/phone pad layout. Some fit and finish issues bugged me along with some techy stuff I just don't like.

We really liked three cars.
1. BMW 535i M-Sport with X-Drive
2. Hyundai Genesis R-Spec
3. Lincoln MKS

The wife and I really liked the 535 the most. I am pretty sure after she graduates from finishing her accelerated dual masters program. She will buy the 535 M-Sport. The Genesis and MKS were close seconds but not our ultimate favorite but way better than the rest. Especially the Genesis.

I checked out the "tale of the tape" link:

http://autos.yahoo.com/blogs/motoramic/tale-tape-chevrolet-ss-vs-chrysler-300-srt-153703078.html

No weight, fuel economy, or price listed, but I'm guessing it'll top two tons.

0-60 time for the SHO is only 0.3 sec less, and it's giving up a bunch of displacement and HP to the Chebbie (er Holden...).

So my answer to the above ^^^^, nope...

Say what you will about Government Motors, and I'm no fan, but my opinion is "buy 'em while you can". As fuel economy become ever more important as we get closer to the 54.5 MPG mandate, there will be NO adult-sized, 4-door, RWD, V8 sedans sold in this country. Everything will be the size of FIAT 500s with a tiny 3 or 4-cylinder FWD motor. The Civic will be considered a full-size car and taxed heavily.

DTR + 4.10's + Eaton swap = WreeeeeeeeeeeeeeedomBimmers are a dime a dozen nowadays but if your wife likes it so be it. I would check into the repair records before I'd buy. BMW's quality has plunged since they decided they need to be as big as Mercedes. I had a friend who leased a 3 series a few years back and it literally spent more time in the shop than his driveway.

I'd check out the Hyundai Equus personally and am surprised the Volvo's are a disappointment for you. I would have bought boring but cheap isn't a word I think of when I think Volvo.

If a Bimmer is in your future go find a cherry 2002stii and have some fun with that. :)
