My MM recently started to sputter while driving up hill. also during WOT it kinda felt like it was lagging/spudding/misfire? I have had a recent tune up and jmod wasdone 20k with new fliud and egr was replace 1 mointh ago. any ideas would be extremly helpful. thx

I assume no CEL, no codes?

Mine was doing something similar to that and it was just the hose going into the intake. $22.00 from ford. Just something you can check.

Was it the top of the intake. the line that goes from the plunem to the valve cover?? I had that replaced in dec of 12

Another thought i had. Has anyone had water in there gas tank?? I fill up with only 93 octane and this issue has been going on since december. maybe a little before then. but its gotten and keeps getting worse. im going to try a fuel filter today. but i honestly dont think that would solve the problem. has anyone else on here had the same issue im dealing with??

Did the problem start before or after the tune up? What brand of spark plugs did you install with the tune up?

Check your spark plug gap. I had this issue while having an unauthorized speed contest. Some plugs were at .26 and a few were up to .37. I reset them properly and fixed the issue.

Things that can easily cause these conditions.

Crank sensor
Fuel pump
Cops/spark plug issues

It started before the tune up. i gapped the motorcraft oem replacement plugs at .54 as i have researched. the sputter happens at normal driving speed. but it gets even worse going up hill.

A long shot, but it could be your torque converter. Ever change the trans fluid? (use only Mercon V)

Thats what i think it is. the tq. i changed to fluid out when i did the j mod about 20k ago. the other reason i think its the tq is a slight whinning niose when i give her gas. i know its not the ps. im just hoping to exhault all small possible issues before i swap trans and tq convertor. my buddy has one avilible out of a 2003 GM for 215$. Just hoping and wishing it were somting cheaper and easier to repair.

Does it break up only at a certain rpm & if so at what rpm ?
With what little info you gave I would guess fuel filter or cop.

Do a pan drop, filter plus fluid change 1st to see if it goes away. A 2003 mgm TC is bigger heavier and lower stall than factory. You might want to spend a little more on a performance quality unit IMHO. You'd want a 9.5" converter - take a look at the quality units from blue oval chips or circle D specialties.

Mine was doing the same thing at a certain RPMs and WOT, it ended up being an exhaust valve not seating properly, and when I pulled the heads I found that both were cracked at an intake valve seat. See previous posts. Issues I had prior to pulling heads was the lagging and busting up at around 4000rpms, would idle fine but then got progressively worse to the point where anytime I would give even the slightest amount of gas it would lose all intake manifold vacuum pressure due to the exhaust valve not seating and combustion blowing back up into the intake.
