In '69 & '70 the marauder was stand alone model, in '63, '64, '65 it was package on any 3 models in the Mercury line up. In a nut shell so to speak.

For our annual car show here in April, I have been buying from the internet the original dealer brochures for all the years in the 60's/70 that include pics of the Marauder for those years.
I will display those with my showboards so folks can see the great MMs that were available back in the day...should provide fodder for interesting conversations/bench racing/'i had one of those' type things. Hope so anyhow.

I remember seeing those red strips on cars in the '60's, '70's. Differant look!

Damn, that thing is radwagon. The brown interior is a bit of a let down, but I could deal with it.

The color inside was the norm for the '60's. I think on that car it fits well.

Stop the bus! It was a stand alone model in 1963 also. It was only '64 and '65 that they used it as an add-on to the the old 3-level line up.

Stop the bus again. How can 2 and 4 door fastback Marauders and Breezeways, in all their various forms (2 and 4 door sedans and hardtops) not be called stand alone? Different trim levels for each, yes. But I would say the different roof lines make them stand alone models. Weren't there breezeways in '63 also?

All 1963 breezeways were Monterey, Monterey Custom, or Monterey S-55. All 1963 fastbacks were Marauder or Marauder S-55.
In 1964 Mercury went back to the 3-level lineup they used in the 1950s, Monterey (cheapy), Monclair (middle), Park Lane (top). All of these models were available as a breezeway or fastback. The fastbacks all had a MARAUDER script and racing flag on the front fender.
1965 was the same, except that they moved the MARAUDER script and flag to the rear pillar.
I agree with your comment about stand alone. They all used a unique VIN code and are more stand alone in that respect than a 2003.

Thanks for the update on the '63's. I know the '64's pretty well.

Here's my opinion:
The 63-65 Marauders had a bit of a racing/performance image due to their use in stock car races, Pike's Peak Hill climb, etc.
Mercury used the Marauder name again in 69-70 on a performance/luxury 2 door.
So Mercury used the Marauder name again due to its history on a full size rwd CV/GM platform with the documented changes everyone knows about in its brief response in 03-04 to the Chevy Impala SS.

I'm OK with the interior color, but those stripes look like something left over from the late 50s, dated even on a '63... Maybe I'm out of the loop and those are making a comeback, I still don't care for them...
The column shift also surprised me, somehow I was thinking the Marauders all got the console shifter like it's Galaxie 500XL cousin...

Those "stripes" are known as scallops.

Depends on your defenition of "top dog". In 1963 the Marauder S-55 was the more expensive of the two. In 1964-5 it was the Park Lane.
All 1963 thru 1970 Marauders came standard with a 390 2V or 4V, depending on the model. The exception is the '69-70 Marauder X-100 that came standard with the 429 4V.
If your "top dog" refers to performance then it is defenitely the 1963-5 Super Marauder 427 cars (427 8V - 425 HP). Quickest ET would have been a 1963 Marauder or 1964 Monterey Marauder with steep gears (4.11 and up). I think the '65 was a bit heavier. I have seen a certified stock 1964 Monterey Marauder clone with 4.57 gears run 13.29 @ 104 in the 1/4 mile.

I agree with the stripe comment, and you may be thinking about the S 55, Mercury's version of a 500 XL.
(Did the S 55's go away after 1964, because I don't remember ever seeing a bucket seat 1965 full size Merc?)

I have been looking at that Marauder all week. I love its '60s customized appearance.
If someone offered me the cash today for my Marauder, I would go after that classic.

That interior color looks nice. It was usually only found on the cars with a similar paint color. I have seen that color on white cars before though.

I think that, in the "flesh", you'll find that interior has a slight rose tint.
Pretty sure the 63 Galaxies had a similar shade. Don't remember it being carried over to the 64's.
Hard to tell from the pictures.
never liked the scalloped paint jobs, even back in the day when they were popular and I lived in the era...:(...oh oh, better call Maaco...
