Just wanted to share my hate for GM. Ill try to keep it short. I bought an 04 ion with 67k on the clock from a retired lady who's daughter ran it through a HUGE puddle at highway speed. Water got in the motor and ruined it. My mechanic found a 2.2 with 20k and all was well...until the unknowingly infamous cvt trans started acting up (I want to kick myself for not doing my homework on this car before I bought it). I found out GM had an extended warranty from a class action lawsuit. After a bunch of reading old google searches it turned out they knew it was faulty from the start. But chose to screw the consumer instead of scrap it. GM told me I bought the car 6 mos too late to qualify for ANY help. Not a trans shop around would touch it and GM wanted 5500 to do the job??
After searching Saturn forums with a huge number of unhappy Saturn owners I found a couple trailblazers who swapped the trans from the 4 door and with some minor issues it worked. It took me almost 2 years but I lined up a mechanic (every trans shop said no) who had ties with a junkyard who did the swap:)
All gears shifting smoothly with no engine light no problems at all actually. Now why the heck didn't GM just do it like that when they KNEW there was a problem?? I will be going next week to register the car as long as my new vanity plate choice is still available (its the only way the states system would accept it).

I know some will ask why not scrap it? Too much into it to scrap it. Plus I wouldn't get to drive it around with that plate.

i'm certain they all suck in one way or another. i'm not a one car company guy. after all i did buy the saturn and was very happy with a previous s series which is why i bought the ion. but no other car company has basically told me to go piss up a rope, therefore i have become an anything but a gm car guy. even ditched my plans of getting a classic gto. hurts me more than them (:bigcry:)but i cannot take pride in any gm after the way i was talked to and treated buy their (lack of) customer service dept.
i will still admire the old gto's though:beer:

:shake:......Yeah....FORD sucks!
BTW: Remember FORD was the only US manufacturer who didn't need a government bailout to survive.
GM and Chrysler can thank all the taxpayers for their jobs!
I owned a GM SUV and it was a good vehicle....I just got tired of sitting in that 'everything is grey plastic' interior....:snore:

Ford paid dearly for the Pinto.
We have all paid and continue to pay for GM's incompetence.

I have always been a Ford nut but mostly owned GM as kept falling in to deals I could not pass up - perk of wrenching in a local service station.
Followed the pre-production of the Impala SS & fell in love, saw the pricing & figured I'd never own one.
In 1995 a friend worked in a Milwaukee Chevrolet dealer body shop & told me there was a 94 SS Exec car on the lot. Test drive = purchase. The car was awesome and great quality.
6 months later on a follow up to the dealer for a minor issue there was a new 96 on the floor. Stuck my head in it and saw they fixed the 2 things I hated on the car. The column shift replaced with floor shifter & digital speedo replaced with analogue gages. An hour later 94 traded back & new 96 ordered.
This was the very 1st new car I have ever purchased. Biggest disappointment in my life ever.
I am disgusted that the factory will build a car that their bosses drive to a superior spec than the ones they sell to the customer. Shame on the entire industry.
The car had 2 major mechanical issues before 4000 miles (which GM refused to stand behind). I had to call Detroit and threaten massive bad publicity before they finally agreed to a partial deal on the A.I.R. pump that they NEW was defective from factory - TSB on issue but no recall.
Then they took the bail-out $$$. I swore I would never purchase a new GM vehicle until they paid the taxpayer back 100%.
Then that P.O.S. GM CEO got on TV and LIED to my face stating they had paid their loan back completely! LIAR! LIAR! LIAR!
I will now NEVER IN MY LIFETIME ever purchase a new GM product.
When I picked up my MM I fell in Love again like I did with the 94 SS.
I will say this though, Ford is very lucky that GM took the $$$. Had they not, they would have come out of the bankruptcy and would have put Ford out of business. Double edged sword for the consumer...
