Has anyone ever had the paint literally peel off at the car wash?
Washed the wife's fusion over the weekend and while rinsing off the front bumper cover, the paint started to peel off. It only made a spot the size of a quarter, but it was enough. It was strange, it was as if the paint was soft like a really warm sticker...
The car is just under two years old with 22,000 miles on it and Ford is fixing it for us for free. Should have it back by friday at the latest.
Has anyone ever had something like this happen?

Yeah the POS paint job on my Grand Marquis has flown off every time I hit the car wash, there are now huge spots where the car is primer only. Looking more like a beater every day.
I plan on complete paint job soon though...

Yes, to my Marauder. Took a chunk of paint off the grill about the size of a credit card. I was :mad2:
Well, still am really...

The clear coat on my Camaro will do that, if I blast it hard enough. It's almost like a 3M film that isn't very strong.
But the bumper is the only place it does it, and that has mostly to do with the fact that SLP swapped out bumpers and a few other parts post-factory-assembly for the SS models back in the day, and those swapped pieces were painted in a different manner.

It was known to happen on some Black 96-2000 F150's. This can also happen on some clear coats when the base color hasn't had sufficient cure time before cleared. The worst of those being 92-94 Grand Marquis. I work at a Ford assembly plant. The front and rear bumpers are painted from the supplier so if I were to guess.. It would have been a damaged bumper at the assembly plant anf the factory didn't prep it properly before paint..
