Annette Funicello passed away today.

"Annette Joanne Funicello (October 22, 1942 – April 8, 2013) was an American actress and singer. Beginning her professional career as a child performer at the age of twelve, Funicello rose to prominence as one of the most popular "Mouseketeers" on the original Mickey Mouse Club.[1] As a teenager, she transitioned to a successful career as a singer with the pop singles "O Dio Mio," "Tall Paul" and "Pineapple Princess", as well as establishing herself as a film actress, popularizing the successful "Beach Party" genre alongside co-star Frankie Avalon during the mid-1960s.

In 1992, Funicello announced that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. She died of complications of the disease on April 8, 2013."

And "Pineapple Princess." Both written for her by the Sherman Brothers.

I met her fleetingly (and I mean fleetingly - less than two minutes) when I worked at Disneyland in the mid-1970s as a conductor on the Santa Fe and Disneyland Railroad (now the Disneyland Railroad), but even in that brief time she impressed me as gracious, warm and genuine.

RIP.

There were only two reasons back in the 50's to leave the "guys" and go inside to watch the small b/w 14" Admiral TV.

Buster Crabbe/Flash Gordon, and Annette.

There are a lot more than that.
