I'm thinking about doing the S-55 treatment to my Black 03 but am worried that the lights will be too dim at night and that if god forbid I get rear ended it will be my fault because of the non-factory tail light treatment. So if your car is black, could you post up pictures of the lights on at night so I have something to go by as a reference?

I actually found a picture on my own using the Google machine. No longer worried. The post em if you've got em still applies though!

They look awesome at night just like during the day.
Here's a video at night to give you a idea.

Well I decided to go for it. Took almost a half hour of taping and cutting to mask it to my satisfaction. I ended up using Krylon Fusion for Plastics gloss black. I have a can of clear ready to be applied in a bit.

I thought I had masked off the rear fascia sufficiently but still fell victim to a little bit of over spray. Any suggestions how to get it off?

I thought of acetone but couldn't find any. Then I realized I have a gallon of seafoam and it smells like acetone. In the spirit of it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, I gave it a shot. Goodbye over spray residue!

Maybe! I'm extremely happy with how they turned out considering that it was just a rattle can job. I still will be investing in some Food coded UA paint in the future though.
Reverse lights are back on!

Thanks! It should look even better once it's all cleaned up. Taking a clay bar to it tomorrow

You may scuff a rattle can job with a clay bar. You may wanna try a light compound then wax to bring it out. I had a rattle car set of S55 tail lights on my car for a few years and they held up nice. Just nothing beats a professional paint job which I ended up doing later on.

Thanks for the heads up! I see that you're located in Queens, which isn't too far from me (~2 hours). I usually head into the city once or twice a summer with a buddy of mine from New Haven. It might be cool to get together for food and/or libation

Now that the weather is shaping up, I do a lot of local car meets so we can set something up sometime. Ill gather all the local marauder owners together as well.

So what exactly is the S55 treatment consist of? Is it just those black cross bars on the tail lamps?

it's painting the raised portions on your tail lamps the same color as the rest of the car
