View Full Version : Couldn't open the hood.....

My neighbor came over to check out my new car and I gave him the grand tour showing off the interior, truck compartments and bragging about how good the exhaust sounds and how big the engine was....

So he says "let's check it out" and I go in and pull the release and nothing happens. I pull it again and again, still nothing. Damn....

He tries to help but, after a minute I got embarrassed and brought him in for a beer so I could figure things out.....

That's when I thought about checking into this forum again to see what's up....

Sure enough, one poster said that he slams the driver door closed and that pops the hood. So went out and tried it and low and behold, it works like a champ.....:D

I was worried that I might have to get the cable adjusted at the dealer.....

Now that I know, I cleaned the assembly and then sprayed it well with teflon silicone lubricant and it seems to be operating normal.....

Anybody have any tips on what they use to keep this up to snuff.....?

WD40 too
Hood latch will also cause an annoying squeak at low speeds over little bumps, was sure it was a shock or ball joint until a tech at work showed me the light...and the can:)

I had a similiar problem when I bought mine a month ago. It turns out that the two little hood bumpers (on either side of core support) were a little low. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the hood sat a tad lower than the fender and front piece that goes above headlights. So, I adjusted the hood to be perfectly level with the other two panels. Now, it works perfect every time.

Hope this helps!

This is one of the little 'annoyances' of the car...some people have it, some don't. Mine started squeaking again a couple weeks ago. Hitting the latch with a proper lubricant every 6 mos seems to do the trick....

Welcome aboard!

Makes me wonder what would happen if you faces NE, held up your right arm, shouted YA MAN and slamed the trunk lid.

There are two rubber bumpers on the radiator core support (the long straight metal support that the radiator, condenser, horns etc are connected too. It also has the big plastic cover over it too. Each of the rubber bumpers are on top of a threaded bolt that you can twist left or right to lower or raise the bumper allowing you to adjust where the hood stops as it latches. The passenger side on my car was about 1/8 inch lower than the driver's side. So, I made the adjustment and it works great! Also, squirted some WD too!

Thank you for taking the time to post those most excellent directions...

This level of info is priceless and I appreciate the heads up....

I'll check the gaps on my top nose surfaces and see if there is a problem there that needs to be addressed with your repair method.....

Mine is doing that squeaking noise. It's driving me nuts. Now I know what to do. Thanks

You might want to add these too.

Hood Bumpers
N804384-S (Ford)

They go in the slots in the fender lip, under the hood, about 1/3 the way from the front of the car.
