Here's another question: does anyone know why Ford went to an external antenna for that year only? That one's worth 50 points since I don't know the answer. :confused:

That was a bean counter dick move, we wore the Ford reps out at police fleet expo about it. They told us that it was a de-contending thing. As the glass with the antenna built into it was quite pricey to do at the time. The only bonus was that AM stations came in better, due to a true vertical mast.

You know, I ass-umed that might be the reason, but it doesn't explain why they went back to the glass antenna for the next 5 years.

Apparently dealerships, consumers and the fleet industry bitched loud enough about it. Other than that, no clue.
