With the Ohio Valley beginning to get more warm days/nights than cold I'm in need of a good bike rack that work cooexist with my Marauder. Anybody have one or know of a good one that will work with no slipping, moving or definitely no damaging???

Thule Raceway (either the 2 or 3 bike variant), you can lock the bikes to the rack and the rack locks to the vehicle. Same goes for their Raceway Platform (I own it, it's fantastic, but have yet to use it on the Marauder). It has these padded rubber feet that rest on the rear bumper and the trunk protecting the vehicle from damage. The It attaches at the window edge of the trunk lid and the "seam" between the rear fascia and the bumper cover via ratcheting stainless steel cables. The cables are plastic coated and they have rubber molding approximately 12" long at the base. I can mount it up in the morning and take some pictures if you like.

Another option would be to buy a hitch and get a hitch mounted rack such as the Thule T2, another locking platform style.

I have a spare trunk mounted rack that I would consider parting with if you're interested. I will get the part number in the morning.

I used to work for a reputable outdoor sporting goods store that carried Thule products. They're American made in Seymour, CT except for the cargo boxes which are produced in Chicago. All the products carry a lifetime manufacturer's warranty.

Because of the roofline of these cars, there are no roof mounted systems designed to safely work with them without making a permanent mounting system by drilling into the roof.

Do what I do (62 cm Spectrum Titanium).
Remove wheels (quick release?): Place in base of trunk (pad with blanket-watch freewheel and grease).
Remove seat and bars (mark heights).
Lay frame on blanket.
Cushion bars.
Position pedals to get into trunk.
One bike in trunk.

Thanks...How many will it hold? And is it the same as the one you described???

It is not. I believe it to be an earlier version of this model http://www.thule.com/en-us/us/products/bike-carriers/reardoor/910xt-passage-2-bike-_-910xt

It could possibly even be the 3 bike variant. I will confirm in the morning.

Will it fit on the Marauder? From what I've seen of the pic the bottom brace will hit right on the back-up light plate area...

PM me when you take it off. I like the hitch racks but am afraid if a hitch gets put on the car I may be opening a can of worms where I'll have to keep telling people sorry I don't tow anything. Plus, how much shows of the hitch on your car now???

I have been to 2 car shows and 1 meet and the only way you can really tell it's there is if you'r looking for it or somone is driving behind you . I will post a photo's this weekend for you . And you drive a marauder that's all you got to say and if they respect the car they should care nothing about the tow hitch :) just my 2 cents

Send me a pm with you'r adress when it's off I will find out shipping for you

The hitch is a huge plus, not only for the bike rack but the occasional dump run or furniture move pulling a utility trailer. You can actually tow 4000 - 5000 lbs with these cars if the trailer has brakes, just install a good trans cooler.

Just make sure to get a real Class IV hitch. I use Valley 82610 (http://www.vtowing.com/PartNumberLookup.aspx?ITEMID=8 2610)and love it. If you wire up for lights be sure to use a transistorized box that provides the extra current so as not to overstress the LCM.

I've put some thought into this. You could fabricate a 2 pc hitch, the second pc of the hitch being L shaped. You would have to get on your back to take on and off but no big deal. Certainly it would hold a couple bikes :) and when off nobody would know it's there but you :D

L.Mark

I think the hitch is the best way to go, but I'm not sure if that's the way I want to go. And I'm not sure the trunk mounted one will work due to the plastic pieces on the trunk where the latch is. Don't think they would survive the weight of the bike(s). I like the custom fabricated one that Jerry suggested, but...

YOU DO NOT WANT TO GO WITH THE TRUNK MOUNT
I started out that way when i first got the car in 05 and now have a permanent reminder in the paint on the lid. More expensive option, but trailer hitch and rack is the way to go.

L.Mark

It was almost ours. A friend of TJ's mom was going to give it to her but she didn't want it. We said take it and will give alittle for it. She changed her mind instantly and decided to keep it. So it's actually TJ's Dad's now. He drives it the most. LOve those TA's too. It was free and all it needs is brakes, rotors and the windows wont' move, even with new motors...Sorry...

Sorry man got too busy with the regular maintenance of the cars this weekend. That and the Pick a Part has kept me from many things. I am off this week so I will hopefully get a chance to finish and mount. But it is calling for rain all week. Tomorrow I'm going to the bike shop to get a few things for it and stop and get the longer bolts. Everything goes as planned......I'll have pics tomorrow. Confucius says, "Patience golden "L" grasshopper".
