So since I've gotten my ca I've been thinking of mods and the one that always comes to mind is the eaton swap. My question is since my car has 177k miles on it, would it be healthy for my engine to push that kind of boost? I know it won't be a lot but the miles concern me. Let me know what you think. Thanks

Pay now or pay later.
There are a lot of variables involved and unless you know how well the motor was taken care of as far as oil changes and how hard it was driven there is no way of making an educated decision.
Also factor in how hard are you going to push the motor once it's installed, are you going to pounce on it from a dead stop or just want a little extra when you need it?
Basically its a gamble. But you will already have it installed so most of the work will already be done as far as the eaton goes.
Good luck with the decision.
Personally if you can afford a rebuild if it goes south I'd take the gamble.

Build it and have fun. If it lasts, GREAT!! If I'd doesn't, build it better.

Ok good thing I asked I was going to jump into. I know the car was taking car of from the original owner cuz he showed all the documentation of all the work done to it. I'm just going to enjoy it the way it is and just do whatever mods I can do to a n/a engine. I might still buy the eaton swap cuz they're selling it to me cheap but I'll just save it for something else later.

Eaton swap in Cali is difficult to get smogged. If there was a way around it mine would have been sc'd a long time ago.

I don't know how you guys survive down there with all those dang rules. Exactly how do they check your car. Can't you guys just swap plates or dashboards for a day? I would find away even if it involved plating it in a family members name in another state, something, anything. :shake:

What he said.
I think a Vortech centri is the only thing that will pass the Envio-Nazi regs in California.

I have the same decision to make... I just turned 200,000 but being the original owner, I know it's been taken care of. I'm still buying parts, so it's not a decision I have to make for a while yet.

couldnt agree more I have 170k and im doing the swap now. I can tell you my opinion if the motor is strong at 170k it probably would of let loose by now if it was going to. Most the guys on here that had trouble were at 100k not 200k. Besides if shes going to break shes going to break this way you get to rebuild her and you will have boooooooossssssttttttttt!

Smog isn't really my concern. I have friend with smog shops that can help me make sure it passes smog and make it legal.

That's true. Every time I see a pic of your car gets me more excited about wanting to do the swap.

Nice! All my friends up here have gotten busted and no longer want to do that.
If you got friends that will help u get passed and your comfortable with what the previous owner has presented you as far as maintenace records and what not. Go for it.
Good luck with your build.

Do a compression test and leak down test. If it passes with flying colors, boost it.

I came to the same crossroad but ended up going with building a new forged big bore motor. In the end it will probably cost more than twice of what an Eaton swap would be but it will be a lot more fun then the stock motor for now and hold me over if I were to ever decide to go boost. I may just stay NA forever and just buy another car.
