I took the 'rauder to a road course event today and when i went to go to run in the 2nd event, it would not shift out of park. I started it in neutral and was able to run the event and everyone told me i had no brake lights.
i get home and replace the brake on off switch and check the fuse. the fuse was blown so i put a new one in. as soon as i hit the brakes, it blows the fuse. it's gotta be a short somewhere between the switch and brake lights but is there a common area to look for the short?
any help is appreciated

Begin with the light bulbs and sockets. Remove the bulbs and step on the brake. The pedal also activates the brake-shift interlock.

I had the same problem it turned out to be a wire pinched between the tail light stud and body. I don't know if it had been pinched since it left the factory or if someone did it while replacing a bulb. Either way one day the insulation finally gave up and created a short.

well after taking everything out of the trunk to start looking for the short i found the driver side part of the trunk behind the liner was full of water. it seems all the turning got the brake light connector wet and cause the short. i dried out the trunk and connector and replaced the fuse and all is good now. although im getting some rust back there now :/

i found the rubber boot around the fuel filler neck in the wheel well was just dangling there so i got some new bolts and secured it in place. hopefully that prevents the trunk from getting water in it in the future

Glad you found the issue! I have some mysterious rust going on in my trunk and can't figure out where the water got in. I'm going to check the filler neck now as I never thought about it before.

Empty the trunk and have some one run a water hose all over the trunk and surrounding area while you are in the trunk with a flashlight.

I've done that several times and still found nothing which lead me to believe something spilled over in the trunk but I have all my liquids upright in two crates and none of them are leaking.

my self and another member here had that issue, mine was a older grand marquis tho but the trunk would get water in it once in a while. finally found a lousy seam sealed joint behind the rh tail lamp, the other member found the same issue, behind the tail lamp. not saying that's what it is but a possability. it also may take a little time for water to find that seam.

I'd have a Trilogy on my car if that was true.

Possibly leaking in from the rear spoiler?

this is what i've been thinking but the drivers side i have a lot of road grime and dirt in there. that tells me the tire is throwing it up and it's finding its way into the trunk.

i don't have a spoiler installed yet. i was going to pick it up today from the painter but that Moore, OK tornado today changed my plans and made me flee my house as i don't have a storm shelter... the tornado stayed a few miles south of me but i do have some debris in my yard from some houses :(
