I just discovered that my R axle seal is leaking. Gears were done about 45 days ago. I had the gear install kit installed with the gears.
How difficult is it to replace the r side axle seal and if anyone has a step by step I could possibly do it.

That is the 1st thing in the morning. Sent them an email already and I expect them to do the right thing and if not I will just fix it or have it done.
Do you suppose a couple of burnouts could haave done it? Never have before, popped a few wheel cylinders on drum brakes in the 70's though

No. The axles rotate the same regardless of TQ applied.

Probably leaking from day 1 then
if the vent tube is plugged will the axle seals leak on one side or both or could it be either left or right

This is easily caused by resting the axle half in/half out. Seen it many times. If it was a reputable shop I'm quite sure they would already know that's a no-no and it may just be a bad seal altogether. Basically it's hard to prove. Easy job regardless, but still sucks.

So if that happened they did not use my install kit???

No, I'm sure they would have. But while they were setting up the diff, they may have rested the shafts in the housing after already doing the bearings and seals. Seen plenty of bad seals as well. That's just one of those things you can't really lay blame on. Most shops I know would just replace it to keep in good standing and never question it. They'll probably take care of it.

The shop should fix it up no issue for you.

Axle vent tube...black hose is not blocked. The port on the axle, is it a type of pressure relief valve? I stuck a small plastic rod in there and it came to a stop about an inch down.

One has nothing to do with the other.
The leak is a bad seal. The "one-wheel peel" is worn clutches in the Trak Loc.

Make sure you get a new bolt for the diff pin on the differential. I waited 3 days for one to come in holding up the job. The Ford seals have a lip around them, much better IMHO. You can't bang em in wrong lol. Use Royal Purple gear oil, it has the special additive in it already. You will regain some of the rear wheel posi spin but it sounds like they didn't replace the clutches and the seals when they did this job initially. If you do this job yourself, line up the pin bolt so you can get at it before you remove it. If you turn anything with the pin out, the spider gears will drop out onto the floor.

I have an appt wjth the shop that did the gears nexg week so it looks like there is no need for to to get oily. Hope they get it right this time.

probably do not need to say this but if the leak is small no problem really waiting until next week. If the leak is kinda large you do not want to drive the car on long runs as there will be insufficient oil leading to bearing, gear and axle wear.

Not my daily driver and it is not a large leak. I am going to check the level b4 I drive again
