I always wanted to try building a hood just like the 2003 Mustang hood with a scoop. Started today. Lots of work ahead and this won't be done any time soon since I need to learn how to use a hammer and dolly but it's a start.
All of the phots can be found in my gallery but here are a few.
Tape ups to find the cut lines:

Definitely going to watch this one. What scoop did use for the mock up in the photos?

The hood was from a blue crown vic but I'll reapaint it black so I don't loose any speed. And no, the scoop will not be functional but it will be a cowl hood to let some heat out of the engine bay.

Good luck. I have a tig welder at the shop but don't know how to use it

But I know a guy who does, that's the important part :D

Bought a hammer and dolly set from HF today and a friend gave me an extra piece of a 65 ford wagon rear quarter to practice on. Gonna beat on that until I get the hang of it. Thankfully the bends I need to make are pretty straightforward.

I was considering a 68-71 Mustang/Torino CJ hood scoop (since I have one), or better yet, the 71-73 Mustang Ram-Air hood setup, but the 03 Mustang scoop looks good and is "period correct" for our cars.

cant wait to see the finished product.

I like it a lot!

If you fab this up to the level of the world's most awesome deadl pedals you make, the hood will be a thing of beauty!

Working hard to get the bends to look the same on both sides. Another couple of nights of hammering and I'll start prepping for welding. Since this is a junk yard hood I need to treat the inside of the hood with a rust converting paint and fix a small rust hole on the inside of the hood. I'll probably have the hood media blasted before I start the paint work.

Be care full who media blasts it might warp and then the real fun begins lol....looking good man I'm in collision repair and I might be doing this in the future....just remember with sheet metal when welding low and slow....keep up the good work

Very creative and i applaud the effort. For some reason i am on the edge about scoops for our cars just because they are so big it doesnt seem right to me. But hey, its your car and you make it special. Have fun with it.

TIG gives me a lot of control. Just need to keep the gaps small when I cut the filler pieces. It's been raining all week so I haven't made any progress since I need to be outside to treat the inside of the hood with a rust converting paint and then soda blast the cut edges. I don't want to rush this.

Been stalled a little on this project. Wife has me getting the house/yard done. I'm hoping to pick up some steam on the 5th and get all of the welding done over the long weekend. In the mean time I've been collecting the tools and material I need like some virgin sheet metal, 1" belt sander to fine tune the patch panels etc. Can't wait to get this started again!

I hope when it's done it looks as smooth as your hood turned out. Black is a great color for showing bad bodywork.

Used judiously, bondo and glazing compound are always your friend.

Looking good thus far.
