Long story short I bouggt a long block and its in. Put a new stewart water pump. Started the car and it runs but its getting real hot. Radiator isnt clogged nor are the hoses. I took out the thermostat and it runs cool but still gets hot. With the thermostat in the bottom hose runs cool but the top hoses run hot.
Please help.

Need to vent/"burp air from system. Cross over pipe has a plug w/1/4"square recessed drive. Jack the front up a little or park on an incline to have the vent at the highest point. Start cold with the plug out (coolant tank cap on) and run the motor until it reaches operating temp. Top off the coolant in the pipe and install the plug. There are detailed instructions and tips in earlier thread(s).

Sorry. Forgot to mention this step has been done. Thanks

I got it from a company called LKQ. It was a rebuilt long block. Total price was 3900.00 n some change. 375.00 core return.

Repeat what Krytin said. I also turn the heater on. it is a pain to get it fully purged .

Yep - you may have to do it more than once!

Did you add a rear cooling kit? They seem to make burping the system easier.

Thanks !,, the best price I've had so far was my local Ford dealer for $3900. Hope you can enjoy some road time soon.

Burping the system is a giant pain in the ass. It took me about five runs to get it topped off correctly.

Yup. Also helps to have the front end of the car elevated slightly.

Goes quicker if you squeeze the hoses (lower) during the process. Make sure you have the funnel in tight.

I did the funnel method on the crossover tube, and it was easy. First time, 20 minutes, no problem. Lucky I guess.

Front on ramps. burp plug out. Let it sit over night. Top it off. good to go.

Make sure your fan is working right, should have 3 speeds if I remember correctly...

Update: After burping the system 4 times the car stays cool at idle. Took it around the block a few times and the temp started climbing. Back to the garage to check. All hoses are hot except the lower hose that stays cold to the touch. Im beginning to think its an error by the company Igot the motor from. Any more things i should look at before I contact the company?
Thanks

When the cap is off the crossover tube and engine is @ operating temp -is the water flowing through the tube?

Is the thermostat still out of the car? If it is put it in a pot of boiling water and confirm it opens then maybe try re-installing it?

Can't think ofanything else to try. Hope you can get this worked out!

Thanks Krytin. The car is still running hot. I've called the company and am going to setup an appt. with one of their techs. I believe there was an error from them when they put it together. Thanks again everyone.

Had the same problem when I used a Auto zone thermostat which was rated at 190 degrees. Replaced with a Napa brand and my problems were solved.

My car started overheating just a few weeks ago and to fix this problem I had to replace the over flow and cap.

Good luck,

The only error I can think of is the thermostat was installed wrong.

Take thermostat out.
Compare it to this image:

I'm guessing it's not the same - this is a very common mistake.

Recently there was someone here giving away the wrong thermostat for a Marauder - which they claimed was correct. (but wasn't)
