View Full Version : How a Town Car should look

I needed to replace my 1996 daily driver Town Car and started the search last fall. Early this year I found a 2003 Town Car with 11,000 miles so I went with it because I had not found a Blue Marauder. The car needed some parts replaced due to lack of use and has some minor hail damage. The car looked like a grandma's car because it was. I have focused on the appearance improvements first. I replaced the wheels painted the grille. I painted the entire base of the car black. Tinted the windows. Removed the hood ornament. Customized the rear plate surround. Tinted the tail lights. Removed emblems. Added a heated rear seat. Added a Marauder air intake. Did alot of cleaning. I have more money in it than I wanted to but I think this is a trim model they should have offered.

Looks nice, but I didn't mind the way it came.

That's exactly how I'd do it if I had one, no kidding. I drive in an area where a lot of livery companies operate and I lust over every one that rolls by.

In fact, if I ever do get one, I wonder if a DOHC swap would be easy enough to pull off. A boosted 32v Townie...

Very Well Done!

Of course I would lower it a little..........
but I'm a little biased when it comes to that!

I still think they should have offered the marauder drive train in the town cars once the end of marauder was final. Could have doubled the sales, at least.

I am so sick of Fords utter cluelessness about everybody but soccer moms. There is a segment who sees their car as a machine, and wants the very best most kick ass machine they can get. They are called men! Look them up. Sometimes they even have the money to buy said machine.

Front end looks like a Lincoln LS on steroids, and that's a good thing.

I agree. I love my Marauder and replaced it with #2 when an Asian lady pulled out of the gas station infront of me.
Many men do not want a soccer van.
Mercurys were originally marketed towards men. The early Mercurys, 1940, had 15 more HP (~10%) than the Ford. The Mercury Cougar was a marketed as a Men's car and they sold a record amount in 1967-68 (women still purchased them).
Currently in my city in California, it is not politically correct or modern to be a car guy as "everyone should be driving a toyota prius" or soccer van
People are different and Ford's recent mass production efforts erroneously eliminated Mercury and the Marauder. My 2 cents
The customized Lincoln Town Car is nice, good job.

All it needs a limited slip differential and steeper gears.

I had never thought of doing that to a Town Car but it looks great!

I'll bet 3.73s would wake it up!

Regarding the man's car stuff, google "1967 Mercury Cyclone ad" and you'll find a great write-up about "a man's car"! I have a copy of it on the wall of my garage, right next to where my '66 Cyclone is parked.

Absolutely right, but look around... Adam Corolla nailed it when he said "In fifty years we'll all be chicks". I'm hoping my 300A lasts me the rest of my life.

Saw the end was near when they brought the Cougar back as a cute little Civic...:shake::shake::shake:. ..what a waste of a once proud brand...

I agree and once I recover the my initial cash outlay I most likely will do exactly as you say. I also think it still needs a stance improvement. I want to put Marauder springs and shocks in front and adjust the rear air. The tune I have is OK but I think it could still be better so that is also still on the list.

Next mod should be a floor shift...would be awesome and really should be that hard I would think. Talked my Dad into converting his 20th Anniversary Cougar from a column to a floor...

2003 is when they brought the hood ornament back because of demand.

"removed the hood ornament".....DISGRACEFUL!

There is a emblem on the grille and hood ornament above it. One of them was redundant and needed to go. When looking out the windshield the hood ornament appeared off center because of the wide center strip so I removed it and moved it inside the trunk so I would still see it. Not sorry I removed it.

Never understood why they had an ornament AND a grill emblem. The GMQ did that as well I believe. I think when asked they said if Mercedes can do it why not us. Love hood ornaments, but the right one was eliminated FOR SURE. Very nice...

I agree that it would look even better with a little drop and a touch of rake, though it looks very sweet as is. When I pass my current DD GM on to my son after his sis gets his is Taurus (Got to earn the right to drive a Panther by keeping out of trouble with the Taurus for a while) I'm thinking I'll be picking up a TC and do similar mods to yours, I'd even like the same color.

Dark blue is one of the most rare color options so if you find a nice one buy it when you find it not when you need it.

Well there is the little issue of actually having the cash to buy it too.
