237 Years ago .... the 1st Continental Congress in Philadelphia called Betsy Ross in and asked "if she had any good ideas for a Flag". She said, "Gimmee a day or 2 and I'll see what I can come up with !!"
Personally, I think she designed the best looking flag of any Country around. Go Betsy !!! :2thumbs:

Some 36 years later, Francis Scott Key was standing on the deck of a ship not far from Fort McHenry in Baltimore, MD. He was scared ******** and kept bugging the Captain to move a little farther off the coast out of range of the bombardment. The Captain told him to get lost and go "downstairs" and do something useful like write a song or something to take his mind off the dangers of battle. So .....
The "STAR SPANGLED BANNER" was born !!!
At least this is how I remember it from history. ;)
