i have the rear cats just sitting in a box in my basement and dont know what to do with...

i know you can get like 25-50 a cat depending on how big............ but from what ive heard no scrap metal place takes these things nomore because to many drug addicts were cutting them off and getting money for them.....

if someone would want to buy these OEM cat coverters from me send me a PM.......

Call your local recycle yards. Last time I checked the ones in St. Louis city required a VIN verification but the ones in the county did not. Needless to say I went to the county one..

Good luck

It is illegal to sell them I believe as its illegal to install used ones supposedly. However my local yards would buy them for about $15 a piece with a VIN.

I thought used cats were worth some bucks due to the rare metals contained in them, but I may be wrong.

A lot of Bad information here! It is perfectly legal to sell used catalytic converters, I.D. is required in most states.

I sold mines in GA for $100 duckets!

You need a permit or license to scrap them in md now a days. Like you said 410, its a way to keep theifs from stealing them, and profiting from your loss. Mount them in a picture frame and hang them up:lol:

My bad on it possibly being illegal to sell...just an epa violation to install a used converter...so I guess maybe you could install yourself without taking it to a shop and be ok??

From EPA, "EPA considers it a violation of the policy to install a used converter from a salvage yard or
sell it for reuse unless it has been properly tested and labeled. Similarly, it is a violation to install
an untested used converter brought in by a customer, even if the customer insists that the used
converter came off his/her vehicle."

My buddy came by the house last week and we deleted the rear cats. I asked what he wanted for payment and he asked for the cats. Of course I said sure. I think he got the money he needed out of them for the hour he spend welding ;) My guess is at least 50 each.

Catalytic converter law has got to be one of the most assinine laws out there.

There's nothing regulating how long you can keep the ones that came with the car on the car, but somehow if they were ever pulled off, they become non-functioning.

I've known guys that passed sniff test with high-flow cats, but since they were after-market, they technically fail. Complete ****ing lunacy.
