Nice retrospective :)

IMO, once you get past the style and romance of 60's cars - and I had a lot of those cars - you are left with the fact that today's cars are the best-engineered, best-built cars ever produced.

Great pics Mark and nice comparison!

Yeah, I'd like to see them side-by-side in person. I always think of those old cars as such schooners, but in the pix the new Marauder doesn't look that much smaller.

I don't remember if it was a Marauder but I remember a 63 or 64 Monterey with the back glass that would lower. I loved the concept.
the XL 100 was just simply gorgeous

They made the Monterey in 1963, and the Monterey, Montclair, Park Lane in 1964-5 that all used the "breezeway window". The Marauder in those years got you a fastback roof in place of the breezeway window.

I had a green and white '65 Montclair w/ breezeway rear window and 390 engine-- put around 90,000 on it. Great car for a growing family. Maury

Powder blue 64 Galaxie next to the Merc.

Rare car, rarer color.

Awesome side by side pics! I love the old 60's and 70's cars. But, you just can't beat the comfort, economy and performance of today's cars. The biggest difference is the coolness factor... The old ones are cooler, just not as practical! Otherwise, I would still have my 1970 Torino GT 429 CJ 4spd.:bigcry:

Well said. Old cars didn't run like today's cars.

But, we didn't spend what was, back then, two week's wages for a sensor.

In 1962, I'd go to the junkyard and buy a three speed trans for my 57 BelAir for $25, and do the job in front of my house in the street. (Dragstrip racing does take it's toll.)
