Not a need, its a want.

If you want to get off the line quicker and lose the doggy respone do the 4.10 - gas mileage loss is minimal, 1.5 to 2mpg.

If you want better fuel mileage, boost it. Boost + 4.10s = 2mpg increase over stock.

The tune and the gear changes the car for the best. It's how Mercury originally wanted to do it! You wont regret it! :)

Lidio at Alternative Automotive is the other tune vendor here. Either one will set you up with a good tune for the 4.10's.

If you get a tune from Lidio he can give you a 91 octane tune also in case your area is hard to find 93.

4.10s, CAI & tune = the best $ you can spend on the car. You will be VERY happy.

Tuners can give you a tune for lower octane but once you go below 91 octane you lose so much performance what's the point.

Big +1.

Had it done on my car last month and it really improved shift responsiveness, much faster and firmer shifts.

Question: How much money will you save going with 91 instead of 93?

Answer: Not much.

Not a matter of $$ Jim, 93 is not available in all areas.

The last 2 stations by me dropped 93 and went 91. 93 nowhere to be found.

The good thing is the 91 here is ethanol free so its better than 93 w/crapanol! :banana2:

Yea I would need the tune for the 91 cuz there aren't too many 93 carriers around.. so it'll b easier to find gas

Agreed, Bill. On my two trips back up to Cheeseheadland this summer, the only stations I could find with 93 were on the interstate. All the local stations back home around Green Lake county were 91 max.

Per the owners manual the Marauder is "designed to use "Premium" unleaded gasoline with an (R+M)/2 octane rating of 91 or higher for optimum performance."

FWIW the lower gears can actually improve your city mpg (if you can keep your foot out of it).

Case in point: I ordered my new truck with 3.73s. The base gear is a 3.31 and advertises 23ish highway, but only 15 city. I am getting 17 city. I am only getting 20 highway so I have basically narrowed the gap between highway and city. The motor is not working as hard around town with stop and go traffic.

Do the 4.10s, especially for city driving.

I went to 4:10 last year. Mostly city driving I get 14 to 16 mpg, same as with the 3:55, maybe 1 or 2 mpg worse.

I got 22 on a highway trip about a month ago, and thought it was a mistake, then I got 19 just 3 days ago. Both were better than I ever got with the 3:55 gears, so go figure!?

I always check every tank, with a fill-up every time.

Not uncommon. I've had a couple guys attribute it to the fact that the engine's running a bit higher in the power band, so not working as hard to keep the car moving.

I saw very little change going from 3.55s to 4.10s NA, the blower's made a difference in decreased mileage (especially around town) but that's virtually 100% driver influenced... ;)

How long does the job take at a shop to install the 4.10?

SC Cheesehead

A competent shop should be able to do it in a couple hours.
