Has anyone seen the bashing our babies are getting on the page where this article is? http://jalopnik.com/why-the-mercury-...ssic-925162402 (http://jalopnik.com/why-the-mercury-marauder-is-a-future-classic-925162402) These uneducated people really are making me see red :mad2:, even people that don't own one, driven one or even seen one are talking *****, I'll personally put up my 03 MM #101 of 7838 made in black title to ANYBODY with a Impala SS from the same gen, I've beat new, old and fox body Mustang GT's, tuners, Crown Vic PI's and even a new SHO Turbo, I owned a 94 SHO with a turbo so I know their quick, we need to go over there and educate these idiots on what their actually talking about, I'm trying I can't figure out how to sign up to leave comments because I'm on my phone and I don't think you can with a phone, shi*s pissin me off, can't wait to get to my laptop!

Lol relax.

No words will get through to them as much as one of them breezing by them while their damn near standing up on the gas pedal.

Most will talk, few actually have cars, and even fewer will run when called out by a big car.

I hear ya...

Even the comment that they're nothing but crown vics, well the impalas were nothing but Caprices!

At the end who cares I know what I got, long live the MARAUDER!

Yeah I agree but when Ignorant a*s people talk ***** about our cars I do get frustrated, I know a guy who has a Impala SS that I do see on the road at times, whenever I pull up to him on the expressway or any 4 lane highway he never wants to get down, Mustang GT's do, even moded trucks etc, Ive even have had little civics with big as* huge as* mufflers sounding like a dam* weed eater (ricers) try with no success, out of all the people Ive tried to and all the people that have challenged me Ive taken them out with no problem, I'm not even Supercharged, my mods are current in my signature, I don't get how these idiots, especially the ones that have no clue what their talking about can talk so much *****, now every time I see a SS I will make sure to shut em down, as usual!!!! Da*m SS cars come with the most used 305 V8 that GM makes, I know, I test drove one to beat the balls out of it, the salesman even asked why the car smelled like rubber (burnt rubber) and why only one tire was balder then the other, notice I said one tire? yeah do a burnout with a MM then a Impala SS and you'll see a posi strip long and curvy from the MM and a straight one wheel peel from the SS, need I say more?

MrBluGruv

What Impala SS are you driving that has a 305 and no limited slip?

The one I drove had a 305 with one wheel peel, the research Ive done on these cars said they come with the 305 Automatic shift on the floor (quite ugly and cheesy shifter I have to say) the cars are exactly what TAKEDOWN said, caprices!! only difference is the small spoiler on the back, they couldnt of even changed the front from the regular Caprices (lights, grill etc), spoiler and ghost badging!!!! Whatever man I know what I have and know what the SS Impala is, all good.

If you drove a 305-equipped B-body in the 90's, you weren't driving an Impala SS. Every '94-'96 Impala came with the LT1 engine, which is a 350 producing 260hp and 330 lbs-ft of torque. Their on-paper performance is roughly equivalent to an MM, as far as acceleration goes. Heck, it wasn't even until the '96 model year that they got floor shifters.

You need to give more than a cursory glance at a topic to consider it researched.

Look, I'm not bashing the SS, In fact I was very close to buying one, I've been building Mustangs my whole life, I'm a Ford guy and happen to like the MM, Just voicing my opinion, I'll always love my Rauder and would never think twice about going up against an SS, funny thing is you see more Rauders on the road than SS's, I know of one and he never wants to get down, where they all at? They made thousands more than the MM, not serialized, what happened to them?

Marauder85
07-28-2013, 10:27 PM
I could care less what people think about me, I hear ya tho, just stating facts, people need to respect the fact that the MM is a better car and will be more a classic, the only thing going for the SS is the fact that the name goes back some time, they've made the Impala SS for years, the name will carry it on, look at how much a original 67 Shelby GT500 goes for these days, 7 figures bro!

Just laugh it off man!!!! Like the others said you won't change their opinions if you did a burnout all the way to the moon. Let them have their opinions, most are hates and want one, some are ones that have been beatin by one and the rest are just typing in a response in order to get you all worked up. Best thing you cant do is shrug it off and never get pulled into a debate...either on line or in person. Most will have their uneducated opinion they all just CV and GM's(no offense meant ever) with a cop chip.

I agree bro 200%, I know what the MM's are and the SS's are, I'm cool but I'm the type of person that speaks my mind, pisses me off but I'm still smiling, have a beer on me!

+1

I've been trying to find an SS for a while now, damn near impossible to find one in original condition, not to mention one with decent mileage. I only make it harder on myself because I specifically want a '96 so I can have an OBD 2 computer in it.

I loved my Marauder, I've just come to dig the feel of big Chevy engines compared to the smaller Ford engines. Course right around the time I got turned onto Chevys, Ford actually woke up and made engines that thoroughly kicked ass in many vehicles, not just speciality vehicles, so I have pretty bad timing when it comes to switching camps....

Marauder85, you need to chillax. Haters gonna hate and the stupid & ignorant are that way for a reason. You can't confuse them with the facts; their minds are made up.

Agreed.

Actually, I took the article as quite complementary, after all, the title refers to the Marauder as a "Future Classic." Sounds good to me! ;)

As to the other clowns, meh...

Breathe in, breathe out... the article was a compliment to our cars...

As for Impala's, well I own one. I love it. Over 275,000 miles of love on her. Talk to Steve Babcock, listen to what he has to say about the car. It was his admiration of a 96 SS that led him to build our cars. So in a way, with out John Moss (lead engineer on the Impala) there would have been no Marauder.

Now, if you wish to see fast SS' head over to the Phili area...you'll get more than your monies worth!

A Buddy of mine bought a '96 Impala which lead me to buy a '96 Fleetwood then jump to the better '95 Fleetwood Brougham which lead to the even better...;)...Marauder. The Last true Impala's are linked to the Marauders...which is cool. They both may indeed be dinosaurs...but they're Velocaraptors!!!!
Love them both...

One question in regards to the 94-96 Imps, Chris and whoever else owns one. When I rode in my buddies the seemed to have way more roll then the Fleetwood. I had heard the the Fleet had sway bars that corrected some roll. Did the Imps not have it or were his just that worn. On my Fleet, mine had a brken mount when I bought it, but after I replaced it it was a night n day difference going into the corners...just curious...

Your buddies car must have had an issue or maybe the wrong sized tires. The Impala SS' all got the 9C1 suspension package which is to this day GM's Police and Heavy Duty suspension.

Thought so. Figured it would be weird if a big Brogham did better in the corners than the Imp...thanks...

I don't let comments bother me. I know what I bought, and why I bought it. I didn't buy the Marauder because it would give me status..... I bought it because I liked it! Plain and simple.
I also don't drive it like I stole it. I don't plan for it to get onto a early grave or scrap yard. I do race it...but not on the street. If I get injured racing, I don't take innocent people with me. I drive responsibly when it is called for. I do (kinda) follow the speed limits on the NJ Turnpike and Rts 80 - 78 - 287 - 195
I have modified my car, it is my car and my right.

You will hear the ignorant and the under-educated make fun of your choice in cars: So how come we get looks from civilians and they get only looks from Police officers?

They didn't have much extra just a new grille, new hood (Caprice hood sans hood ornament), unique rims, and blacked out trim. A little known fact is that the 2004 Impala SS has a quicker 0-60 than both the seventh gen Impala SS and the Mercury Marauder. Another thing to consider is that the Impala SS was so popular that GM was still making 96 models until December 1996. Having owned both, the Impala has a terrible interior. The seats lack ass grabbing technology which is sad because it has so much torque. The Optispark system along with the VATS module and Fuel pump were almost designed to fail.

Looking at the whole thing from afar it is pretty obvious that the Marauder was influenced by the success of the Impala SS. Both are great cars.

You are exactly right, the Imp interior feels like a $5 blow out sale at the local pawn shop! That Opti CRAP was HORRIBLE! A huge upgrade would be to put the Bonneville SSEi seats in, very nice bolstered seats.

However the torque and brakes are awesome on the SS.

Hated it on the Caddy!!!

And YES! Why not raid the parts bin slap unique stitching and perfect. The seats were good for the Brogham and Roadmaster, but the Imp???

LOVE the LT1!!! Anybody that rode in the car was impressed at the big car being so nimble...guess they had forgotten the days of gone by when all you had were big cars going fast...

All in all, it aint nothing but a thing...

I put the BAER brake kit on my Marauder (front and rear) Now she stops. Then I added the Motorsport aluminum heads for the car with a 3 angle valve job and extrude honed. Then came the full SW exhaust, 65 k coils, control arms, re-programmed computer, and cold air kit. The radio was replace with a Pioneer AVIC system with GPS, backup camera, DVD player, 1000 watt stereo system, and upgraded speakers. I am still debating about putting my spare NOVI 2000 blower on the car (I have a never used supercharger).
You are all correct about the seats being the weak link. I had to put super gripper seats into the Mustangs so I don't slide in turns. I do like the look of the leather Marauder seats.......if only they had placed some bolsters into them.

I too owned a 1996 SS. I loved the car at the time. Didn't like the opti setup, seats, and that water pump setup that failed me 3 times in 2 years and it wasn't a daily driver.

Compared to my MM there is not comparison. The MM makes me feel complete. Fell in love with this car after seeing it for the first time. Just couldn't fit it in the budget when it hit the scene.

Street "racing" is not racing. Racing is done under controlled conditions. "Who beat who" on the street is meaningless. If an MM can out race a Mustang GT, it is a dog, has a bad driver, or the MM is modded.
