I am a mechanically savvy guy.... I know my way around a wrench.
My timing chains are clicking at startup... I have 160K miles on it.
I can rent a car to ensure the job doesn't need to be fixed in one day, I can work on it for a few days.
Labor is CRAZY if someone is to do it...
Anyone have a DIY on changing the chains? Can it be done by just taking the fan out and removing all the stuff that's attached to the front cover?
I watched a video on YouTube "timing chain replacement modular 4.6"
Of course it looks easier on video... But I don't mind getting a little dirty to save ALOT OF MONEY.
Alls I have is a driveway and tools. And ill need a "harmonizer" to remove the bottom pulley
I remember seeing a good post about it... But lost it

Are you sure it's the chains? Mary's car has 175,xxx and has no chain noise.
What kind of oil filter are you using? Many filters use a nitrile ADBV (anti drain-back valve) that is prone to stiffness after prolonged use (sigh...go ahead... ) and allows oil to drain back into the pan, causing startup noise. Using a filter with a silicone ADBV, as recommended by Ford, helps to minimize that.

Mine has 249,000 miles with no apparent problem with the chains or tensioners......I hope?? ;)

I'd purchase a FORD shop manual.

The chains themselves are probably fine and you may just need new tensioners.

I'll bet a 12 pack that it's your tensioners. Our Intec 32 valve engine is prone to some chain rattle on start up especially if you are using 5w20 syn oil. Personally I wouldn't worry about it.
