View Full Version : Glad the Marauder is out of production

Here is a thought...
Our car is very short lived, two model years as we all know. Do you know what's so good about this? It never got worse with age. It's not like an Impala or anything else that was in it's prime years ago. When we see a Marauder it will always be awesome. No one will look back and say that's last years model or say how improvements were made the next model year. It will always be cool and unlike most cars from 2003 it's aging like Wine, not Milk.
We already know it's a classic. Due to the fact that is was short lived, it will always be cool like anything short lived. Like James Dean or The Sex Pistols (whatever short lived thing you choose) there was no watered down decline before production ended. Yes I can ignore the spare, missing clock and all those other little do da's that were weeded out to save on costs, but the car itself was still solid.
It doesn't matter if we look at it this week or in 20 years, it will always be cool. I still get looks when this thing is clean. Try that with a Mustang from 2003 that's soon to have another generation replace it like yesterdays news.
Cheers to Maraudering.

It's sad the Panther platform is out of production entirely now, but it makes the Marauder all that much more rare and less "is that a taxi?"
I agree with you 100%.
Except "drive fast, safely, live a long time to enjoy it all" ;)

*insert applause here* Thanks...now I want one more than ever...11 years of waiting is enough! :) My senior year....going to the auto show with my buddies...and I could not leave the Mercury booth. I have so much memorabilia...now I need the car already!
Working in the car business for 13 years and counting, you made such a great point. So many cars we look at and say ...oh its that generation...they upgraded this in ___....remember when it was a cool two door? (Charger reference)
I love Marauders because they are all I want in a car...they don't make em like this anymore; and sadly probably never will again.

[B]To prove that it is a classic:[/B
I sent a copy of the Marauder production data and certificate to my collector insurance company. It now costs me $ 318.00 per year to insure the car. Since I only use it for car events, I'm OK with that restrictions on use. I was paying more than twice that for regular, depreciating coverage with my daily driver insurance carrier.

How do you know what wine ages like? You don't drink. Ever heard the term wine to vinegar?

gotta go a little bubble busting here, but it did get worse with age. The 60s Marauder is a lot cooler than ours... you could get a 7L with a stick. Just saying :-D

I love hearing people say "You never see these cars around anymore". My response is always "That's why I like it so much".

I just wish more and more people knew about the marauder Production . I hate when people say that you drive a crown Vic with some fake stripes ...... Gets my blood going let me tell you !!

LOL!! I agree, I bought mines for what it would do performance wise but hate the fact that it "looks like" (1) a undercover/ Police car,(2) a Crown Vic, (3) a Grand Marquis, (4) a repainted taxi (5)any government agency car....I've heard all that from family members to strangers that asked where I got the body kit...but had the same thing happen over 12 years ago with my 2000 Lightning, people thinking it was a regular F150 with a body kit. Don't dog out Mustangs because you got a Marauder. Mustangs have been around 50 years in continued production for a reason. People know what they are and people love them. I have both, my Mustang for 17 years, my Marauder for 3 and they serve different purpose for me, my Mustang for fast 10 sec blasts, my Marauder for DD and/or family duties with space in a 4 door, quick, cool to me rare car that's what I want it to be-MINE!!!

Interesting viewpoints here...and more for discussion at our next car show here in october at my church...Wimberley United Methodist...do not have the exact date yet...but the last one was last spring and we probably had 30+ vehicles of varying age, make, and 'reputation'...along with some antique cycles...motorized and not...anybody remember a Simplex automatic...

Pro's and cons. Pros if it went longer is that maybe there would be more aftermarket accesories for it, more people would know about it. Cons...looks...I pesonally do not like the last years Cv and CMQ's headlight set up. But Glad you didn't see it go to Taurus size and front wheel drive say like the once might Impala...nothing against them at all...I own an '03...just saying...:)

Who are these people. Let's pull their Marauder cards and run 'em out of town.
BTW how many Shelby Cobras are there? Just curious.
Most records agree on:
655 Small blocks ( 260 & 289 V8s)
348 Big blocks ( 427 & 428 V8s)

As much as I loved my Marauder (even enough to buy it back from the guy I sold it to) it seems to be an underpowered (V6 cars make more power now) and problematic behemoth. In the 40,500 miles I drove my 2004, it had seat heater switches replaced half a dozen times per side, blend door actuator, fan resistor pack and the LCM snafu we all have to face. This was on a $39,000 car. By comparison my 2006 Taurus SEL has had the following replaced in 106,000 miles; brakes, serpentine belt, wiper blades.

I love the Marauder and I could care less if some people thinks its an undercover, or a Crown Vic. It's a cool car that's rare and every once in a while someone who appreciates cars will stop and comment on it. That's enough for me.

At first , I was a bit angry on this topic you started--on how it seemed to be something it turned out was not--a great and thoughtful subject actually--so my salute to you for that--
And I agree so much with what you have said --just needed to read the whole post--not be shortsighted and go anger --you really did make a great point here..I have had the same feeling --you put in out a bit questionable at first --but the points are "right-on"!
I applause you for this post--you have grown up for sure--I am liking a lot of what you bring to the table vs your earlier years--thanks for the point of interest for sure--
. except I have to force myself to ignore the fact that I have no place for my sunglasses. But since love is blind it hasn't been too hard.
......Not sure why .I have an overhead case placement for my sunglasses in the overhead compartment ceiling area.......you don't????
gotta go a little bubble busting here, but it did get worse with age. The 60s Marauder is a lot cooler than ours... you could get a 7L with a stick. Just saying :-D
No bubble busting at all...........for what its worth---.in my opinion....comment doesn't belong actually........its a post about our years production car--not the back when ones-----that's for another post in my opinion...this wasn't a post of past model years........and since you brought it up.....they don't compare to ours-thus why we don't do that --comparison thingy--carry on...its about how ours are unique in their own way.....

Most all of us original owners probabably agree--but it does give us the chance to proudly speak out about all we know that they wish they had known.........thus we drive it ..and they don't----as you drive away feeling so on top over those who thought they knew.....
LOL!! It may looke like a CV and others , but you and others know it is not --that is what makes the difference---as said earlier--you do enjoy separating yourself from others when stating its a Marauder--at least I would think you do...enjoy..

Think most would agree with you on all this...me too--

Actually , $35 K in the states--
Some did have more problems than others---but all were fixable so to speak--depends on a lot of circumstances with so many things.....sorry yours took a different turn.
I love the Marauder and I could care less if some people thinks its an undercover, or a Crown Vic. It's a cool car that's rare and every once in a while someone who appreciates cars will stop and comment on it. That's enough for me.
10-4--what this whole thread is about--most would agree including me...cool!

You nailed it... except I have to force myself to ignore the fact that I have no place for my sunglasses. But since love is blind it hasn't been too hard.
I replaced my wrecked 2003B with a 2003A as I wanted the little options that were deleted by 2004.
I use the sunglass holders, one for reading glass and one for sunglasses. I use the door mounted automatic trunk release all of the time for getting my car cover. I use the seat map pockets to hold extra CDs. I like the instantly readable clock in the dash. I do not use the under the hood light and I hope to not have to. I like the rear deck mounted speakers.

how about the cool way it fires up, and dims its interior lights when you close the doors, the bad paint is just there for character, these are awesome cars.
