I carry a Kel-Tec 9mm PF9. It really is the thinnest most comfortable 9mm to carry in your pocket. I carry 100% of the time and forget it's there.

It's cheap and it's made in Florida. I also have the Kel-tec 9mm PF11, it's a 1/4 fatter but still thin and is a double stack magazine.

Take a look at the Springfield XD or the Taurus Millineum.

Note the XD-S is being recalled.

Where are you guys getting Ammo? I'd go 9mm if I could easily get bulk rounds.
I find the ammo scarce around here anyway.

I had looked at the Walther, Glock and Springfield XD. I ended up getting a CZ P-07 Duty 9mm and have been quite happy with it. Have 650+ rounds through it.

Take a look at the Glock 23. Most of my serious handguns are .40cal. I only have one 9MM and its a showpiece. One .45ACP, one .38cal and a .357cal.

Love the Glock - light and easy to use. Big enough to fit my (big) hands.

I've got about 5k total rounds between my 3 M&P's. I carry a M&P 40c with full Apex treatment. My dad carries an M&P Shield 40. With my M&P40c I shoot a group about the size of car keys at 25ft.

Glock 36, slim line, 45ACP, 6+1, hides very well with the correct holster, FTW. :D

Home defense? 12 gauge pump shotgun. I've seen grown men urinate in their pants when "racked" down on.

About 7 years ago, I sold my neighbors NIB 70 series gold cup, I sold it for $1000.00 to a dealer, I am sure it was worth more, but, being as how my neighbor paid $78 for it when he bought it at a hardware store many years ago, he was good with that figure.

Without seeing it, $900-1000, probably more.

I had the old P99 compact for a while. It was a 100% reliable gun with a really odd trigger. I got rid of it because it was to small to shoot fast or accurately but too bulky to carry well. I have not handled the new one, but would expect it to be accurate and reliable. Holsters might be hard to get and spare mags might be expensive. Gun Nuts Media had a pic of one the other day. I do not know if there was a story to go along with it.

What is on your priority list in a new gun?

There is a lot to choose from. Whats most important is the gun that you are the most comfortable with. I always pick it up and I know immediately if it is a gun for me.

Thoughts on a Smith & Wesson M&P 40?

I can get them for $420.00 includes 3 high capacity mags.

Liked the SW but purchased a .40 springfield XD (std length) cause I liked the lack of rise on "double" and "triple" taps...less rise...better control

They had really good write ups in the rags, provided its one of the new & improved models. 40cal can be pretty snappy out of a short barrel in a light pistol making followup shots difficult without a great deal of practice.

Best source for ammo i've found, especially if you like (or have no choice but to) pay shipping.
http://gunbot.net/ammo/pistol/

But my carry gun is a H&K USP40 fullsize, and I conceal it :D
I've got a S&W .38 snubnose too, awesome little gun.

The only problem with Sig is they have so many models & variants of models that you really need to know what it is you want. I thought I wanted a Sig 220 Elite until I handled it. Not really a CCW for year round use.
If you are in a place where you can rent a pistol to try it, thats the best way to go.
Many folks do not like Glocks, but we bought them years ago because they are basically idiot proof. Great combat gun as long as you don't limp wrist it. However, if you are looking to punch small groups, there are better choices out there.

As I said before, I am partial to my Glock 36 for year round carry. Thats what I did my HR218 quals with. NYS limits you to one pistol for HR218 and it has to be a "duty (type) pistol". Mine is, well to say, been refined so to speak... :D

Another good source for ammo is www.sgammo.com (http://www.sgammo.com), reasonable, fast shipping. I compared with gunbot, same prices, half the cost for shipping @ sgammo. OK to NYS was 3-4 days. Thats why they are pretty much the only company I use now. I see ammo has not dropped... I really need to go maintain my skills.

m&p is a great gun. my top 2 striker fired guns are the m&p and the fns. I prefer 9mm but to each their own. as for a da/sa the sig p229 and 229 are excellent but pricy, the cz 75 is an excellent lower cost alternative. I personally prefer a cz75bd (deckocker instead of a safety).
