I was just wondering if anyone out there with a Blue, Silver, or Red MM had painted their tail lights to match their body color?

Personally,.. I think it would look pretty cool. I guess a can or two of OEM touch up paint would work.

Whadaya think?

How's this for a close match right from the factory:

LOL pretty good, but not exact.
Yeah,.. it would stand out more on a Blue or Silver, but I still think DTR tail lights would look sweet.

Oooooh... you mean like NightShades but with color!

No. I haven't seen that yet.

I had read an article a few years ago where they were working on lighting systems that were indistinguishable from the painted body surfaces until lit. That would be real cool.

Paint?

Over the entire lense?

Screw the laws, you are defeating the purpose of other motorists seeing your lights at atleast 500 yards.

It looks great I'll admit, and I sure don't want to piss you off, but the tail light tint we spoke of and condoned back in the day is far safer for all involved.

I realize several folks have gone this route, and if done sparingly, it works out ok. But the whole idea is to remain safe on the road. If you're gonna black out the entire lense, much as I did, PLEASE PEOPLE...use a TINT that appears black and smmooth, and shiney during the day, but passes 80% of the light as well at night.....

I for one DO NOT CONDONE THIS TREATMENT to the average newbie on this sight.

Painting (with paint!) enire tail lights...bad idea, why not just disconnect the bulbs all together.

BTW: You forgot the backup lamps, no need to have motorists know you are backing up either.

it is transparent. i had a painter do it because i wanted it to look decent...better than i thought i would do with a can of niteshades.

Transparent enamel paint....ok.

I have painted over plastic with a rattle can of paint and light fails to pass through.
I may have missed something in the regards to your painters technique in use of automotive paint.

Are you able to post pics of the brake lights on during the day?

Here's mine for comparison. Note: My backup lites are completely blacked out, and the 2 center sections of the tail lamps were NOT painted. Night shades TINT used.

Here's a photoshopped concept of what I will be doing with my CV (had to use the DTR MM desktop since there's no CV). I think the lights would look good and still be functional if done like this. I know I've seen a few people here do this on their black ones. Already did the exhaust, and I have the second set of taillights and rear valence panel to paint and change. Pics of my real car are coming...
