Hi all. Looking to buy an LX Sport for a DD and would really like to get your guys input before I get ripped off by the dealer
Car info -
Started at $10,000 and I talked them down to $8,200 and they are considering the offer. But after tax and some ******** dealer fee it will be more like $8,900.
2004 LX Sport
98,601
Moonroof, side airbags, dude pretty much chose every factory option, car was over $32k on original sale
Carfax report is pretty amazing, 1 owner purchased at the same dealer that's selling it 10 years ago and had it serviced every 10,000 miles or so and pretty much said yes to any repair or tune the mechanics told him he needed.
It's also got a pair of really nice tires on it with only about 17,000 miles
Kelly Blue Book puts it at 6,593$ but Carfax price adjustment is $1,260 for the condition which puts it at about $7,853.
It's got one little dent, they haven't detailed it yet so they prob going to buff it and pop it out -

KBB value is what its worth to a bank. Any more than that is what its worth to you. If you want it and you're happy with the price, buy it. If not, move on.
FWIW, it looks clean, but mileage is a little high for that price, but not unreasonable.

Gotcha. Mileage is high but it was babied like crazy during it. I think it's worth it to me... just that the final price is going to be almost bear a Marauder with 150k miles.. but oh well.

Maybe I can let it sit for a month and they will come down a bit. Never know, there's a lot of DONK fans around here and someone could sweep in and buy it to throw big rims on it. tsk tsk.

IMHO you could have a marauder for that price. Good luck with your decision

If I went with a marauder I'd need something pretty clean which I'm not sure I'd find in the 8k price range. I'm a shade tree mechanic now, no garage so I'm very very limited to what I can wrench on.

+1 , even if its not as "clean" as you would like , its still a Marauder so why not get the top dog. And with your skills it shouldn't be long before its as "clean" as you would like. I just bought another one after I totaled my first one w/ 118,000 on it(sig. pic below), this one only has 55,000 miles but it had to come up to my standards so it would be as "clean" as I wanted it.

Well I'll guess I can get looking and reading! Need to brush up on Marauder knowledge so I can spot something that's off on cars for sale. I use to know a lot about them but forgot as the years went on.

How about this?
I'd rather not have a marauder with a lot of mods. Rather do the work myself.

Rip off with a rebuilt title...
Bah I completely missed that sentence. I need to go to sleep.
I think what I really need to do is just find a cheaper Vic LX Sport :P

This past January I bought my '03 for 9k with 125,000 miles. I'm am the second owner and the car is super clean inside and out....no squeaks or rattles. With the exception of a K&N flat filter it was bone stock, and had the added bonus of brand new Cooper tires. It even had a Royal Purple oil filter which to me showed it was well cared for.
Long story short good cars are out there for decent prices including Marauders.

Just having a rebuilt title at this point in time does not mean much. With the age and commensurate decreasing value of these cars it gets easier and easier to total a Marauder.
It does not take much to ring up a $5-7K repair bill these days. Remember the definition of a total is the cost of the repair as a percentage of the cars value. As the value decreases the damage required to total a car goes down and down.
If the total was in 2005, when the car was almost new the damage was probably more extensive, though even that can be deceptive. If some really expensive part, say the engine ran up a a steel pipe, punctured the pan and was blown, The large cost of a new engine plus some other misc damage could easily "total" a car, thus a rebuilt title would be issued even though there really may not be any lingering effect of that accident.
My point is especially on an older car, the car itself needs to be evaluated based on condition.
Yes the branded title will bring the value down, but that can be a good thing for the buyer.

Can also prevent insuring a car sometimes. It's a hassle you should avoid at all costs in my book is all I'm saying. If it's a specific car your looking at and really want and none like it exist without a branded title so be it...

That's like saying just because it's smashed on both sides, it's still a marauder.
Smh.
Buy what you can afford and what makes you happy. There are some nice marauders for little money these dayZ. If it is something that you may sell in the future, get the marauder, it will have a better resale.

In one on CL linked above doesn't actually sound too bad...it has Grand Marquis trunk fascia and taillights, but otherwise looks intact. Might be worth looking at.

This doesnt make sense to me. Looking at a car in Miami, it was declared a salvage car after a front right impact. I asked the owner -
"what was replaced and worked on after the crash"
-just front bumper
"that was enough damage for insurance to call it a salvage car?"
-yes because the airbags were deployed

They might be understating the damage a bit but air bags and seat belts are expensive just by themselves. It does not take that much damage to total an older car.

Well yeah its still a Marauder smashed or not the one I totaled is still a Marauder, but that wasn't what I was saying. It was all things equal anyone should take a Marauder over a CV or GM just that simple, a Vette over a Camaro , a Cobra over a GT... If they can afford the difference in cost, and by what was said a nice Marauder could be had for about the same as a Vic that was being considered.........
Marauder every time

States vary on the salvage title rules. Missouri does not require a salvage title on a vehicle totaled that's over seven years old. I just had that happen on an 05 Sable. Insurance company totaled the car, paid me off, I fixed the car, and still have it - insured by the same company! They did say they will not pay off on a second total, but it only needs liability coverage. If this had been my MM, I would have gone to another insurance company with the original title for full coverage.

I'm going to buy the vic actually. They will meet me at $8,200 and I really like it and think I will enjoy it for a long time.
