So I started to drive my 2003 as a daily driver and Los Angeles traffic sucks. I notice in stop and go traffic notice some times little jerk form the rear end.

I cannot stand tailgaters either.

Sounds like possibly the u-joints, but someone with knowledge should be in here soon.

Like a popping sound if you release the brake right before you stop?

Not a popping sound more like slipping from stop to go. From a dead stop it does not feel like that.

Have you checked your trans fluid level? If not, check it out. Make sure the car is running for at least five minutes and check it while it is running.

Or the LSD clutches are chattering, although this is unlikely in stop and go forward driving, since there really isn't any differential in wheel speed when going in a straight line. Could also be worn bushings, worn tranny mount, motor mounts, etc. When the motor mounts broke in my Jeep, stop and go traffic was almost unbearable.

In the MM, I notice just a slight chattering in the rear when I turn right. Nothing major, and it feels like the LSD clutches chattering. I've seen this issue in Ford 8.8's, but mostly in trucks after having the factory Trac Loc LSD serviced. If the tech forgets to soak the clutches (or doesn't soak them long enough) it gets really bad.

An issue I had in my Mustang 8.8 was the LSD was very worn, and the axle shafts had excessive end play, causing a very annoying clunk.

Weird thought here...... You could have a mechanic check it out

Rear suspension arms? Trans or motor mounts? Shock? Could possibly be any of these items undertorqued or bushings worn. You could bring it by & I'll take a looksy...

Thanks for the info guys and it's almost time for a service any way. I will have the dealer check it out.

If it feels like a light bump when you come to complete slow stop and then release the brakes, my bet it trailing arm bushings are getting loose.

When you brake its trying to rotate the pinion yoke down toward the ground and when you let off the brake it rebounds back up. This is the bump feeling. If they really get bad, you can hear the clunk from the trailing arms as the rear end moves.

Easy test is have someone hold the brakes on and shift from reverse to drive several times. You will see the rear end assembly look like it trying to rotate back and forth (up and down). You can watch the pinion yoke and really see it move up and down. Slight movement is normal bushing deflection. I have seen a car with worn trailing arm bushings but on a lift the rear end feels tight when you try to move it with a pry bar, etc.
