I have always loved the old Chevy shortbed fleetside pick ups and now that my LS fox Mustang is done i was starting to get a little bored with nothing to work on so i found me a project..
1964 chevy short bed that needs a little tlc but over all nice truck and vary solid and has a 383 stroker and 4 speed transmission with a 12 bolt rear end with 411 gears, truck has been mini tubbed and will take a 13 or 14 inch rear tire.

Friend of mine has a '65. Basically stock except for the 327ci swap. What are your plans if you have thought that far yet?

Well we took it for a ride and it did run and drive great but theres a couple exhaust leaks and i need to play with the carb or buy a new one.......The truck came with boxes and boxes of extra parts, fenders, bumpers etc etc and the correct headers......the headers that are on there now are the wrong ones and have a few leaks..I also need to figure out what back spacing i need for the rear rims.....i want to put fats and skinnies on it...i think i need a 15x12 wide rim with about a 6in back spacing....and i need to find a black bench seat...i never did like yellow paint but its starting to grow on me...i might just fix a few areas and maybe try and save the paint.

I think i`m going to give the 383 thats in it a chance first. it seems to run ok but i need to play with the carb or put my new prosystems carb on it maybe....BUT i have the itch to put my 600 hp ls3 and th400 trans in it and you just never know..i already found ls motor mounts lol. .I just wounder if the 12bolt rear end thats in it will live.....the guy said its a 411 with a posi unit but stock axles. ?? I no nothing about 12bolt rear ends ...

We run the 12 bolt behind a worked LQ9 in Jeff's Nova with upgraded axles and it holds up. Trust me, Jeff is NOT kind to that thing. We also have a customer with a big inch Chevelle that puts down massive power and the 12 bolt holds up well - and again he flogs that car like mad!

12 Bolt is a solid rear end. Built right, it will hold up to a LOT of abuse. Lots of GM guys run them in drag cars with no issues. I love old Chevy trucks. That looks like it will be a lot of fun!

I had a 12 bolt in my 67 Caprice 396 big block and beat the crap out of it. It will be all good.

Got the new headers on and finnished the exhaust,,,went through the carb and put a new starter on it..runs and sounds great now....i can burn rubber through 1st and 2nd till i let off.......i pulled a rear wheel off so i could figure out how fat of a tire i can get in there and theres a total of 16 inches of clearance........so i think i need a rim thats 15x12 with a ...i hope a 6.500 or 7.00 inch back spacing....5x5 bolt circle..
If i put a 14 or 15 inch wide tire on the back would i need a 12 inch wide rim or wider rim ??

That would really be pushing it with a 15" tire on a 12" wheel, if it seats at all:eek:

sorry Roger i had to sell the silver truck..
ya i`m looking for a 14 inch wide rim but whats a good way to measure back spacing ? I think i`m just going to drive it up to Harlow tire and let them figure it out...they have lots of drag wheels in stock and can try a rim on first......
