It is with profound sadness that I must share the news that Rex passed away overnight. Terry, his wife, called me just after 2pm EST this afternoon. He had just finished his physical therapy sessions the other day, was eating healthier and losing weight. He signed off on the website at 10:16pm last night after posting six times yesterday.

Service will be this Sunday at 3pm at the Church of Good Shepherd in Greenville. Visitation will be at the Church prior to the Service.

Update: Rex's Obituary
http://mackey.tributes.com/our_obituaries/Rex-R.-Weinbender-96677348

http://www.lcgs.org/

I will take care of whatever is most appropriate on behalf of us Marauderers.

Terry said what she needs right now are prayers and support. I told her, whether near or far, her Marauder Family is only a thought away and we're here to do whatever she needs.

God Bless you, Rex
May Your Soul Rest in Peace
Amen

Expressions of sympathy may be sent to Terry:

Very sad news. I met him and his wife at the Marauderville held here in St. Louis and I remember how kind and friendly they were to me even though they had never met me in life. A definite loss to all!

Eric and I are heartsick over this sad news. Our hearts and prayers go out to Terry and family. Rex called a couple weeks ago. He was feeling good about his recovery and looking forward to steadily regaining his health....

Rex, you were always bigger than life in all the best ways. A true gentleman, a loving father and husband and such a good friend to all of us in the Marauder Community. You will be missed everyday and we will celebrate your love of good times, good friends and great cars each time we gather together. Rest in peace my friend.

When Dan called me with the news it was hard to accept as realism. It still is.. I have met up with Rex all over this globe, even had the pleasure to have him over a couple times, never once a dull moment. Outgoing to keep ya smiling, always there to give advice or an ear in life's matters, and boy o boy could he hold his beer!

Thanks for all the years and smiles friend, see ya up north for the big meet someday again.

Here is a pic of Rex at MV10 Awards Banquet with Brad (BradleyG), John (TMF), and Joe (guspech750) ... the trophy plaque on the table belonged to Rex for "Best Engine Supercharged".

Well said Tom, to meet Rex once was to have a friend for life. Often imitated, never replicated, Rex was a one of a kind special man, good for all time zones, and dedicated to the happiness of those around him.

It's clear, from reading through these posts and from seeing his input on this site regularly, that he was an integral part of what makes this site what it is. It's hard not to feel like this community lost part of its foundation today.

I learned of Rex's passing late this afternoon and have had a hard time wrapping my mind around it. Still in shock typing this.

I met Rex for the first time in Louisville 2008. Ms. D and I were attending our first big MM gathering. I was sitting at the end of the LCR table alone and this fellow with red suspenders plopped himself next to me and said "Hi I'm Rex, SCCheesehead on the site, wanna beer" From that moment on I knew I had made a lifetime friend. We didn't meet in person often but when we did we were usually the last two in the parking lot BSin over brews and bourbon. He told fastinating stories of his travels and helped me to understand much of what I know about my Marauder. Always willing to listen and quick with a good natured barb I was proud to be his friend. I will miss him.

My thoughts are with Terry, his family and all his friends.

Goodbye my friend

Wow did you ever feel like things just keep getting worse? Rex and Brad and I went out to dinner a couple times this last summer, then brad had the toga party with Rex, Zack, MotorHead 350, becky etc all there! At that time I was still going thru Kemo and Rex told me how he kept thinking about me and wishing me well! My Older sister Sharon also was at that party and was a big supporter of me getting better, then on the first week of Aug (yes this last August) they told my sister she had Cancer.
So here I sit tonight just returning from my sisters Sharons Wake when Brad told me about Rex. Do I need to say more?
Ya know they say grown men are not supposed to cry, but sometimes it has to be done!
To Rex's family I wish them the best and will say a prayer for Rex and them both!

I never met Rex in person, but he was one of the very first I ever sent a private message to for some info or something and he was just great with his info and welcoming me etc to the MM.net community. Then when I asked him about Wisconsin, "like did you live there" due to his name Cheesehead etc.. because I had lived in WI for 15 years and was 40 or so miles from the Sheboygan area (although he had long relocated to SC) It was like I was his new old neighbor..ya der and uncle heinrich etc....
I wish I could have met him.

My sincere condolences to his family, his friends, the MM community.

Oh boy what can I say here that hasn't already been said? Rex was a pillar of this site, the guy to go to to ask any question, whether it was an Eaton swap or something silly like air compressor. His know-how and knowledge we might have taken for granted and now that he's gone it just makes that space he left behind even larger (no pun intended)

I had the wonderful chance to meet Rex not only at Louisville but last November in Manassas, VA. He was on his travels and was in the area. Chris (blown 3.8), Sherm, Mark (merc) & Pam all met up with Rex at (where else?) Hooters. He was a great person to talk to, and an even better person to drink with. I enjoyed meeting him again in Louisville this past year.

Truly a shock. My thoughts and prayers are with his family in this difficult time :(

I had the pleasure of meeting Rex at MV 4. We hung out in the parking lot of the hotel while some lucky MMers went around a track. I bought the jack with tools that came out of his totalled DTR. I also helped him out by looking at a '99 Taurus SHO with 49k for "E-Dub".

Rex may God Bless you and your family. Me and him were PM friends for years. Had to go to N. Carolina to visit my daughter and grandchildren, he asked me to bring him shrimp and Hot Sausage. We met on the road and my wife (Karen) fell in love with his Blue. I then got my Blue. We shared a bunch of meals (Papa's and Beers) and a few other places. His place was a stop when I was in that area.
Miss you my Blues Brother.

Rex, may you rest in peace....prayers for him & condolences to his family....I remember his e-mails to me saying he wanted some Windy City Marauder decals for his car since he considered himself part of Chicago originally being from Wisconsin and all..... when a bunch of us got together at Dave & Busters while he was here this summer, I had the pleasure of putting them on while he inquired about my prostate cancer treatments.....he was a genuine caring person who liked everybody & everybody liked him in return....I will miss him....RIP friend.

I’ve had the pleasure to meet this true Gentleman “Rex” a few times over the years. With the few times we met, he definitely left permanent memories. One of the first times I met him was at a Southern Marauders Tilted Kilt gathering. I’ll never forget the laughter and smiles he created that day at the table.
I can still smell the beer he made me squirt out of my nose from laughing so hard…. (short story) One of the guys at the table asked Rex to take a picture of him and one of the Tilted Kilt girls. Rex agreed and was handed the camera. As the two stood together smiling awaiting their picture to be taken, without a second thought Rex aimed the camera at the girls breast, maxed out the zoom on the camera and then quickly snapped the picture and handed the camera back to them. Definitely an everlasting and hilarious memory I’ll never forget!! I can picture him now… above us looking down…chuckling and hoping his wife doesn’t read this.
Rex, we didn’t know each other well, but you made life-long impressions I will always remember from the few gatherings we met. Condolences, Marauders, Cheers!

I will just say I was stunned when I heard the news of Rex's passing. He was a true friend and I will miss him dearly.

Sometimes you hear people say -that person is larger then life-that was Rex. You only get to meet so many of those people in your lifetime -you know the ones that can walk in a room and make everyone light up! The ones that always have a kind word for you when you are feeling down. The ones that you can tell genuinely care about how you are doing. That was the gift of my friend Rex and I was very lucky to have known him.

I have shed alot of tears thinking about his' passing but I know he is in a better place. I just think of him and Paul Casey discussing the merits of a Mercury Marauder smoky burnout and how far they could do them! I can even see him wearing one of those cheesehead hats, multi-color suspenders and having a beer while chuckling about how good the Packers are going to be this year!

To Rex's family I offer my deepest condolences. He was something special and we all will miss him tremendously!

Godspeed my friend!

My kid remembers hanging with Rex, they both watched the BEARS v. PACKERS game and he/kid also got to rock out one of his suspenders. My son is saddened by the news and was looking forward to telling him about the Bears recent win, instructing me to pm him! It broke my heart to tell him the news and see his reaction... You will truly be missed, your presence touched many people, young, old, and new. It's gonna be hard to MARAUDER on without you Big Fella!!!

I rolled in about 30 mins ago. Ditto on the eulogy Eric gave; any father would be very proud to hear his son (or daughter) say what he said. I can't imagine the courage he had to do that, and the strength he showed while doing it is something rarely seen. When I tried to show my sympathy to Terry, all I could mutter was, "I'm sorry" and "you take care of yourself". I just didn't know what to say to her to let her know how special Rex was...I'm better at writing my emotions than I am at speaking them, for sure. I did include a letter with the cards I gave to her and to Eric & Lisa, so hopefully that will suffice.

It's just not gonna be the same without Rex. You often hear the phrase "fill the void" in a situation like this, but I believe that there's no way to do so in Rex's case. Besides, I don't want to fill the void; I want to keep it there as a reminder of a great friend I was fortunate enough to have during my life. To simply 'fill the void' would be to act as if nothing special had happened, IMHO.

Eric's eulogy about "Pops" was moving & straight from the heart. It summed up all the good things that we all knew, loved & admired about Rex. He had touched a lot of people & it shows with what was expressed here in the forum & those who attended the service. His absence will be felt for a while, but take comfort that a part of him is living amongst each of us that every time we have a moment to reflect on a segment of time we had with Rex in the past that, rest assured, it will always be an enjoyable reflection of the times we shared with him. He set THE standard of how a member of a car club should represent to the general public in car shows all that is the Marauder. I had arrived home around 9:30 p.m. from the service & worth the total of 6+ hours round trip to pay my respects to Rex & his family.

Like the time we found ourselves at Beer pub by the speedway here and there special --wait for it--yep---beer--but not just any beer---unbelievable 110 oz. draft beer glass--or more a long tube----and of course he says to me --"you know we gotta try that"--so you know we did---split the cost --believe it was $24 and payable by CC before you got it--which was really different back then--and believe me it was not as easy as it may seem---that beer just seem a bit more toxic --LOL----yep memories--we all have them ---this has been one!
