Ya know....After a "complete restoration".....which means that 97% of the car is NOT original, some rich Porsche sucker will shell out way more than $57,000 for that thing.....:shake:

He's basically paying all that coin for a few body buck tags.

But, rest assured, he will make a LOT of money on that rusted out, beat-to-hell shell.

Never underestimate the inverse relationship between a Porsche owner's money and common sense!

$100,000 restoration = $200,000 car? $43,000 profit.

The only thing I can think of is that the VIN tags are what they're after to put on another car. The seller devoted several pictures of them...

Its no different than a Pontiac GTO...grab the VIN from a pile of crap, go grab a Tempest thats in decent shape...VIN tags + Tempest Body = GTO = $$$$

but......but.....it's a Porsche...an OLD Porsche. That automatically makes it worth its weight in unobtainium.

What a crock. :shake:

I think he's grasping for the chance of it being a Roosevelt car, and not so much of the car itself?

"It appears that it was crashed at some point in history and was parked. It still has part of the racing numbers on the side along and a roll bar."

I think the seller left out "rolled and caught on fire" in the description...:shake:

It must be a Porsche thing and I just will never understand. :D

I see scrap metal worth 14 bucks.

:hmmm:

After further review of those additional pictures, I'm not sure if there is enough metal left in that hulk to warrant $14.00 at the scrap yard.

I've seen more metal in a spent 6 pack of Coors!

BUT!!!!!

It IS a Porsche....... and a 356 Speedster at that!!!!........:bows:

Wiki says: One of the most desirable collector models is the 356 "Speedster", introduced in late 1954 after Max Hoffman, the sole US importer of Porsches, advised the company that a lower-cost, somewhat spartan open-top version could sell well in the American market. With its low, raked windscreen (which could be removed for weekend racing), bucket seats and minimal folding top, the Speedster was an instant hit, especially in Southern California. Production of the Speedster peaked at 1,171 cars in 1957 and then started to decline. It was replaced in late 1958 by the "Convertible D" model.[5] It featured a taller, more practical windshield (allowing improved headroom with the top erected), roll-up glass side-windows and more comfortable seats. The following year the 356B "Roadster" convertible replaced the D model but the sports car market's love affair with top-down motoring was fading; soft-top 356 model sales declined significantly in the early 1960s. Today these early four-cylinder models are highly coveted by collectors and enthusiasts worldwide.

The car was built of a monocoque (unibody) construction, making restoration difficult for cars that were kept in rust-prone climates.

I always lose interest when you read about a 'restoration' where 90%+ is not original....I mean....at that point, who cares?
If you can't preserve the body panels and the frame.....
It's not the original car anymore!

Guys..... if the car is the actual race car they say it is, this is a very cheap investment upon restoration. It would not surprise me if this $57,000 pile of parts would sell for close to $1,000,000 with a $200,000 restore job.
