A 850 H.P. John Deere diesel vs. a steam tractor rated at 18 H.P?

It's all about torque and traction!!! ;)

Indeed. Steam engines make their maximum torque starting right from zero RPM. Plus, look at the size of the rear wheels on the steamer...

Just like with ricers, having high HP numbers without the low end power is not impressive... ;)

LOL....That is great!

That 'ole steamer was badazz.

At least the modded John Deere was useful for digging some DEEP cornrows!

Laughing at the guy on the JD in the racing outfit and the two guys on the steamer wearing T-shirts.

Would like to see if the result was the same on a prepped track.

Torque is the TRUE measurement of power, not HP.

Torque combined with the ability to transfer it to the ground always wins.

The steamer weighs probably 3 to 4 times the JD, combined with the huge rear wheels & the torque it produces = it wins before the competition started! :burnout:

Those old tractors could weigh over 40,000 pounds. It's a steam train with wheels for the farm.

I bet a LOT of 'em got stuck in mud too!!:(

I have seen modern tractors stuck so bad it took two 4-Wheel Drive ones to get 'em out!!

While it's cool, it was to expected. At least to me.

That video was great! Went to a tractor pull in Northern Wisconsin once and this old farmer had a 1940's Dodge Powerwagon -straight six and it out pulled every thing including a couple of bigger JD tractors.

It was pretty amazing as the peak hp was real low but this thing was geared real high and made a ton of torque! I dont think that truck could do more then 50 mph down the highway.
