Well I saw the doc today and found out what happen to my knee after I fell off a ladder a couple weeks ago. I have a torn ACL and small tears in my meniscus. 1 doctor told me that after surg I will be out of work 6 to 8 months so there goes my job. So I guess that move west will come sooner than I thought lol. Oh well see what happens next week :(

Damn I am sorry to hear this Mark. :( Do you have some kind of Short Term Disability or Long Term Disability coverage? I am assuming that you have no options available for the company to put you into another position until you are fully recovered.

Sorry to hear. I had my ACL replaced (wasn't torn, it was not connected. Did rehab for 4 months before surgery to strengthen knee. I was able to put weight on it right after surgery. Do all the rehab you can it really helps. Good Luck!

Sorry to here. I tore my meniscus several years ago to where it was floded back on itself. Worst pain I've ever felt. They removed part of it and other than taking some Osteo Bioflex for the ache it acts like a broken bone. I went back to work in about 4 weeks. Have you tried a second opinion on being able to work...

Start PT now! I had surgery back in 09, but did PT for almost 2 months before th esurgery. Granted my damage was from a vehicle vs pedestrian but had no ACL damage. Minor tears in the muscle but the meniscus had 7 different tears, one being 3.5cm long!

I was 'walking' within a 4-5 days. I was back at work (limited capacity) in two weeks. I was not back on unrestricted work for about a month but did PT for almost 3 months after the surgery. It was tough but I refused to quit.

Push through it!

I do not know what my company will do... This did not happen at work so I don't know what to do for income, maybe welfare lol who knows. Or find one of those home jobs to do on the computer. See what happens Monday.

That really sucks Mark. Sorry to hear this man.

Like a few have stated. Do everything you can to help strengthen the knee now. I did a few months of physical therapy before I had surgery on both my knees at the same time. No way in hell I was going to have surgery on one knee, rehab and repeat again. I did both knees at the same time, took a month off of work, rehab and feel pretty good.

My injuries occurred over time. A combination of my many years of hockey and work. I simply filed for short term disability.

Sorry to hear, hope it is not as bad as previously said. That's a long time for recovery. I thought knee surgery was more in the 3-4 month recovery time, but I guess it all depends on the extent of it. So get a 2nd opinion from another ortho doc.

Sorry to hear this bud, I'm getting mine replaced on the 17th of Dec so I feel your pain. Gonna be out on short term for 4-8 weeks. Been rehabbing for the last month.

Don't buy a brace through your surgeon if insurance won't cover the cost. I bought mine here: http://www.betterbraces.com/knee-braces, for half the price i would have paid through the surgeon,

Might want a 2nd opinion. Possible that you can avoid surgery with PT and pills. I had torn ACL and related meniscus tear. Fell off a dock into a boat. It was nasty. Knee blew up so big that had to cut off my pants. I was amazed at what the PT did. Took about two months to get back to 98%.

Sorry to hear the news Mark -that is horrible. 6-8 months seems way to long. I know guys who have had major reconstructive knee surgery (acl/mcl and pcl) and they were up and walking in a week or two.

Are you sure you will be down that long or will it be 6-8 months for full recovery IE : ability to run/jog?
